So it looks like i need to have a molar out, the furthest one back on my lower jaw.
It’s a tooth that has gotten progressively worse over the years due to a botched root canal in 2011.
Since then (once redo was done) it’s been filled and kept clean, but in the last 4 or 5 years it’s gone black and all fillings just bust out due to them being so thin.

I’m also confident this tooth was the cause of some TMJ issues which all started in the same year (2011).
I’m also a grinder which doesn’t help (not the app kind).

Now the tooth is cracked from top to bottom, no space for a crown, a bridge would cause damage to the tooth in front, so he suggested pulling it out (£250!). To be fair, the same dentist has preserved it for 10 years saying you might as well keep it for as long as possible.

Now, having scanned through a few threads I have the PH paranoia. Everything from changing the shape of your face to bits of bone sticking through the gum have been mentioned.

It’s an irreversible procedure so do want to make sure i go in armed with knowledge. Mainly affects on chewing, jawline and whether it would make TMJ symptoms come back horrifically. The tooth above has lowered significantly over the years, which is part of the reason any filling or crown don’t work. The problematic tooth sits very low in the gum, almost under it, and is a pain in the arse with constant gum pain etc.

Anyway, any advice would be appreciate.

I had a rearmost lower molar completely removed about fifteen years ago with no effects whatsoever

Had one lower removed on each side when i was 16, no real issues i’m aware of 14 years later. I think if you have multiple teeth removed in one area you’ll have facial changes.

I had the one in front of the rear most molar removed, had concious sedation as the tooth is very deep seated and it is quite a physical removal. I eventually found a bit of tooth got left in it which is now wedged against another tooth causing problems.

The sedation BTW was very relaxing.
