Is there any benefit to them?

I was taking 1000mg of Vit C, 1000iu Vit D and a general Multi vit from Boots daily. I now take them every few days, can't say I've noticed a difference. I was actually deficient in Vit D in a 2019 blood test but that's all good now.

I take Alpha Man from MyProtein.

I'd say I can notice when I have been off them a few days, I'm also Vit D deficient .

A good diet should cover most bases, I take vitamins d through the winter, and b12 cos of meds I'm on, and magnesium for enhanced sleep.

I take a Vit D supplement as was lower than ideal based on my last blood test but haven't taken a multi vit in years. I think part of the challenge is knowing what you are deficient in e.g: Zinc,Magnesium, Iron etc

I take multivitamins daily and Glucosamine specifically for joint pain in my knee.

Not sure on the Multivitamins but the Glucosamine makes a big difference, i forgot to take it for a few days running a month ago and I really noticed the difference, as soon as I started again the pain subsided considerably althoguh it's never completely gone

I'm looking at taking some regular vitamins, currently take D through the winter but thinking of going for vit B and Omega 3 also. I was considering glucosamine due to old joint injuries but I think there is a chance that can raise cholesterol? Anyone know if Magnesium works for shift workers for sleeping? Male, 40, fairly fit (regular exercise).

Unless you have a shocking diet you should be OK for the main vitamins. I take vit d because that's hard to get from food and any significant time outside ill generally wear sunscreen. I also take omega 3 because I can't stand fish.

Ultimately taking a multi vit everyday isn't going to do any harm either.

Thread ressurection but is the manufacturer of vitamins important? On Amazon you can buy some, same dosage, and the price varies significantly with no discernible difference in the content.

No. Mg is a mineral btw. Zinc and Vit C the only ones with proven research behind them. Given a proper diet that is. They are cheap and easy to produce so standards across the board should be similar.

I was of the understanding that research has shown vitamin D to be very beneficial (at levels far above the recommendations from government agencies).

I recall product placements saying there are different forms of magnesium, but I am not aware of the details or veracity of such claims.

Older people and those deficient may benefit from supplementation. Same with many of the vitamins.

D is handy in winter times when people don't go out as much so don't get as much sun exposure.

As for vitamins in general, just buy the supermarket brand, same goes for things like paracetomol, ibuprofen, asprin, hayfever tablets etc...

For some reason my dentist in November went pretty big at me about taking a Vit D oral spray and magnesium.
I figured no harm doing it, so I've been on the vit D for about 3 months now and magnesium similar amount of time but I do forget to take that one some of the time.

No idea if it's doing my any good, I sometimes wonder if I'm feeling a bit 'happier' for want of a better word, but hard to tell really.

It doesn't matter if people DO go out much in winter, they'll get no vit D from the sun between October and April in the UK,the sun just isn't strong enough.

I take AG1, NMN and Magnesium.

I absolutely feel better for it. I've been on AG1 for about 3 years I think.

Are there things you can take that are genuinely good for joints, muscles etc? Now I'm 40 I'm getting more open to taking anything that does actually help these sorts of things.

Jury still out if my Vit D is making a difference or not, but it's not making me worse that's for sure!

Some people swear by glucosamine for joints.
If you're vit d deficient one of the symptoms is bone pain and muscle weakness.
I absolutely believe vit d supplementation is vital, I have had the symptoms and the data to back that up.

Ok thanks will look into that.
Been taking Vit D oral spray for a good 3 months or so now.
My question around joints etc is more because I'm coming back from ACL surgery, and also seem to have ankle issues, so thought I might as well look at taking anything that might help here.

I too struggle with my joints but in my case it's lack of flexibility and age that's the cause I think.
The only fix is daily stretching/yoga type exercises.

It's quite individual to your situation. For me, it's been quite depressing to ask chat gpt about the efficacy of stuff i take like fish oil

generally it seems i've been wasting my time for years
