Mrs Bill is after an exercise bike and airbikes have popped into my radar during the search. They seem like a really good idea particularly as we do a bit of kayaking and some upper body fitness won't hurt.

The main question is how loud they are if she wants to go and do a steady 30 mins watching something on TV?

Any thoughts or recommendations?

I used to train on this when I was not in good mental health (to read as me participating in cross-fit).

They are very loud and the movement has very little carry over to cycling or generating upper body power.

I would recommend running outside for cardio and strong legs. And getting a boxing bag, if you want to workout the upper body and your whole body too.

Are we talking about the same thing? It's an exercise bike with arm exercise, and the option to put your feet on pegs so you just work upper body. She runs anyway so it's just a crap weather/short of time option but I figure some upper body interval training would be a bonus.

If its a good one I’d recommend using it for hiit/interval training sessions, do a warm up then do 30sec full then 20 sec 60% effort, do 6 lots of full effort. It wont build any muscle to be fair, but combined with kettlebell circuit it will help

They do generate a bit of noise because of the fan, but as long as you're not trying to watch TV in the same room you should be fine.

I think they're excellent: you can easily do a steady 30 mins (or more) if you want, or you can push hard and do short intervals too. I used a Schwinn Airdyne yesterday and whilst you can obviously just not grab the handles to make it legs-only, it also has foot pegs so you can use upper body only.
