Let me just get the basics out of the way. I shower at least once a day and wash properly. I clean my teeth twice a day, floss every other and use mouthwash daily. I change my underwear, socks and t shirt/shirt daily and wash and dry them properly. So I'm not an unhygienic person at all.

Recently I've noticed that I smell, bad. My wife hasn't commented but I can smell it myself. I get out the shower and my pits already smell of BO. We wash the bed sheets once a week and my side smells, not BO but hard to describe. My feet specifically my running shoes are a bio hazzard, as in store outside bad. I noticed occasionally as well my breath smells.

I've always been a hot person and a bit sweaty, and I don't think my hygiene has changed. I'm a bit over weight at the minute, is it just down to that? I've been over weight before and don't remember smelling like this.

Should I see my GP? Bearing in mind currently I've more chance of seeing Brigadoon than my GP

Try Mitchum, that might stop the armpits smelling so bad, not that I would know as mine don't smell smile

Are you a Vegan by any chance ?

There was an episode of Doc Martin where one of the locals stank. Turned out it was a medical condition where the body can break down some foods properly, an enzyme deficiency if I recall. Think the treatment was to avoid some foods.

Someone will come along with the name of it soon.

If you have recurrent BO you need to hot wash your clothes to kill off bacteria lurking. Also buy yourself some Hibiscrub to use on your pits.

Very brave post!

You need to ask your wife if you smell. If she hasn't mentioned it, maybe you don't.

I have hibiscrub. I kept getting skin infections and that cleared it - god I sound like a skank.

Definitely not Vegan, I'm the utter opposite of a Vegan. My diet has become more unheathly recently, hence the weight gain.

Interesting about the enzyme thing, I'll have a look into that.

I asked my wife. She said no, but she did say when I was training for Ironman a few years back I regularly stank avery starnage smell. I winder if that was a ketone type thing, I wasn't doing keto but 6 hour bike rides and 2 hr + runs must put your body in an odd state.

SURE anti-perspirant deodorant.

As a branch manager I once had to tell an employee that he was a bit smelly, of BO, and other staff had complained.
He used a body spray as a deodorant… which just doesn’t work, it went stale and he applied more..
I recommended that he threw it away and uses an anti-perspirant, like Sure.

It was a tricky topic to discuss, to be honest..
By the weekend he made a point of speaking to me alone and he really, really, thanked me. He said he was very conscious about it and had lost confidence in all aspects of his life.

Challenging somebody about it as a boss was tricky.

Admitting it and posting on here must take guts. Kudos to you OP.

Yes I use an anti perspiration rather than a deodorant. I do also often put a squiz of EdT on as well, appreciate that only masks stuff.

I think its more than a bit of BO. But it's odd my wife says she hasn't noticed it. Maybe she has covid and has lost her sense of smell.

How much water do you drink each day?
How much vegetables do you eat?

Use Lush (the shops) deodorant. I absolutely love it. Can't stand the shop but for over 2 decades I've used it. Awesome stuff.

Get her to do a quick covid test, that might put your mind at rest.

Maybe you just have a very sensitive sense of smell.

And there in lies the issue. The fact that what you eat once had a face, I'll let that slide, as its your choice.... but that you do eat meat is frankly why you stink. You are digesting flesh. Let me repeat, you are digesting flesh....hardly going to smell like roses are you. Recommend you cut down on your meat intake and see if that helps matters.

I do drink a lot of water. I have a 750ml sports bottle on my desk and fill it up regularly. Vegetables I'm not eating nearly enough of at the minute.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating meat. Nor does it make you 'stink'.

Digesting flesh that my body is designed to do. But also I've eaten meat for 40 years and only smelt like this in the last couple of months so I'm not convinced by that link.

Veggie I presume smile

The vast majority of humans eat me, my god if you were correct the world would stink to high heaven.

Vegans/vegetarians on the other hand with all their stinky vegetables and meat substitutes.....................

Your original comment made the implication that there is a direct link from eating meat to having body odour problems, or to put it another way, if you eat meat, you will smell.

This, of course, is utter bks and so you should expect to be flamed for such a comment. Humans are omnivorous by design. Veggie or vegan by choice. None of these choices will inherently make you smell.

It could be a bacterial infection OP. I would suggest you attempt to meet Brigadoon and discuss the matter. A course of anti-biotics to see what impact it has, may be a way forward. I am not a doctor, just a suggestion.

Humans are anatomically herbivorous. Get back to me once you have read up on the subject.
