As a child of the late 90's early 00's I spent most of my weekends, and on occasion Thursday to Monday in clubs/sitting around on strangers carpets "partying".

Looking back some serious legal and health risks were taken, but will always say that the experience changed me from a relatively shy and sheltered person into a more open and rounded adult (who knew you could just speak to girls and that gay people existed!?!) I firmly believe you should get that phase out of your system before you're 30 and you have other, more serious commitments like not being in full recovery mode until Wednesday and actually being able to function at your job.

I don't feel any ill effects now but a friend of mine has recently been having really bad headaches and following a scan discovered he has some sort of lesion/bleed on his brain.

One of the questions they asked was whether he had taken drugs in his past (he lied) and the docs are generally relaxed about any sort of invasive treatment but he is now on thinners for life.

So my question is should I be concerned it's going to catch up on me and does anyone have any experience.

Mine's a mitsi turbo...

I was a child of the 80s and a Raver of the 90s and 2000s. I have no idea how I made it out alive to be honest.

Most weekends would start with a long liquid lunch at a pub in Bristol, then back to the office at my rubbish IT call centre job slurring words to the customers. But our managers came to the pub with us so we were all involved.

At 5 we were in town, drinking, looking for drugs/taking drugs. Getting into Club Loco, Blue Mountain, Lakota night clubs, which ever had the big event on a Friday. Get home at 6 or 7am, sleep and then go drinking all Saturday afternoon and then to a club again until 7am Sunday. Some rest and the Sunday sessions in the afternoon.

Work would be empty on Monday. We would all be in bed (often with each other, all sorts of stuff would go on) with mouth ulcers , jaws that’s were sticking out pass our noses and hugging packets of Pringles. By Wednesday we would be in a pub planning the weekend ahead

I dread to think about the number of contraceptive pills ive taken after being desperate at 3am in a club, handing £10 over for something, down it went with a swig of red stripe.

No idea if it’s caught up with me. I don’t think so. We had some years of heavy use.... but I think those that are struggling now in my circle of friends are the ones who smoked and continued to do. I was never a fan of weed, always threw up.

Took speed, base, coke, “e” and ketamine almost every weekend for at least 10 years. I probably look about 60 due to lack of sleep but I think I’ve got away without any long term health issues.

I would absolutely love to live those times again but this time with a phone with a good camera!

A very familiar story OldAudi wink

I'm personally grateful that social media wasn't a thing. I would dread to think what photos might be lurking on the internet somewhere!

I also avoided weed, which seems to be a drug that continues through the phase where if you can actually operate your phone on a night out you probably need to double drop again.

It just crossed my mind that I might have stored up a problem...

I was a big raver in the late 90s (18-19 till 23ish). Parkhall and Bowlers, maybe Wigan Pier every now and again.

Lots and lots of speed (several grams per night) and Es every Friday and/ or Saturday. Never coke.

Great times, wish I could go back sometimes. Sunday and Monday was a nightmare. Use to be a wreck.

Smoked weed for about 8 years, when it just to been resin (squidgy black, slate etc).

I'm now 40+ and not had bad effects (so far). So far so good. No doubt it will bite me in the area when I'm much older.

Born in 81, drank and took enough drugs to kill an elephant, for a long long time. I have a decade that is pretty hazy, but I wouldn’t change it for anything! Some of the best time ever.
Most likely taken a big chunk off my life tbh, but, probably the chunk that would be spent in a home, so I’m at peace with that biggrin

No ill effects so far, but I ended up in hospital a lot over that period (mostly due to stupidity)- so it took its toll at the time.

I partied pretty hard until my early 40s. Now in my late 50s and have had some health issues. Past catching up with me? Who knows. Nothing to be done now anyway.

I think knowing when to stop is the key thing. I partied hard with some friends from 18-23ish, had some amazing nights at Slinky, Fabric and The End as our main haunts. 2 of my friends carried on though in to their thirties, and one of them still does now in his forties.

The one that stopped in his thirties can just about hold a half decent conversation, the other not so much. Honestly it's a surprise he knows what day of the week it is!

Like another poster said, I've probably wiped a few years off my life, but I'm not sure they're years that I'd be living life to the full anyway laugh

I had a great time from ~19-27, then sorted myself out a bit.

No ill effects to speak of though I suspect my brain isn't what it would have been... hehe

Main ill effect of my misspent youth is dire tinnitus from far too many metal gigs. frown

Yep, my late teens and early 20s were a blur. As you mentioned though, it helped bring me out of my shell. I know a few people that died as teenagers as well as one who had a full on heart attack in his early 20s, but knowing when to stop is easier for some than others, and there's a large element of luck too.

As for health, I reckon I've damaged my organs a bit but I stopped in my mid-20s. Palpitations and the fear got too much. Digestive issues have since occurred, but nearly a decade on I think I've learned from it. The people that continue in to their late 20s and 30s will eventually die from it. Anecdotal here but I know many alcoholics who never lived for long past their 40s. Some that stop only live to their 50s.

All this is ignoring the mental health issues. I know a few men who've taken their own lives, I suspect because their heads are fried from extensive drug and alcohol use.

You won't be feeling it now, it will catch up with you in your 50's, your teeth will go, liver will be considerably less functional, skin will age.
Long term use of alcohol and weed to say nothing of the more potent substances that will screw with your mental health is not going to be good for your health at any time

Not as much as in my youth, but still drinking too much, and now legally growing and smoking lots of weed.

Me?
Hacienda boy late 80's in the heyday. Whistle, hat, Adidas Trimtrab and shopping in L'Homme in Manchester for clothes.
Moved to London at 22. Carried on partying whilst having a great job in the square mile.
Did the lot for years.
Now?
Fitter than I've been for 30 years. Settled down a bit at 45.
BMI of 22. RHR in mid 50's. Cholesterol level bang on normal. BP of a 35 year old.
It's all about genetics IMHO.
Would I do it again?
Too right!
Had a ball!

Plenty of illegal substances between ages 18 and 35, although raves and house clubs were very much about the music for me, I liked pills as much as the next person but I rarely overdid it, a nice mellow high was my preference. It was absolutely worth it, and I don't regret any of it for a second.

The people I know who’ve most badly fked themselves up through substance abuse are mostly alcoholics. In the end anything taken in moderation is usually ok, like many clubbers my drug use was a recreational thing, I certainly wouldn’t take anything during the working week.

That said I’ve dabbled in coke but I never liked what it did to people, it’s the drug of tts.

These days I have two small children so I rarely drink to excess, or take drugs and don’t smoke either. It isn’t fun trying to wrangle kids on a comedown or hungover and isn’t fair on them either.

Wigan Pier for me, followed by Monroes.
Or Blackburn used to be a great night.
Dabbled with everything except the nasty brown injections.

I'm 40 now and in better shape than I was in my 20s. Only just started smoking weed in the last year or so.
