Ruptured achilles

LimbO - if you phone them and tell them your size/need they will sort you out. with an aircast you need quite a stretchy top seal to get over the boot
I have one of those for showering. (From a previous knee injury)I meant to say in my op that I need one for outdoors as I’m going camping in a few weeks.
I preferred to lie in the bath with my legs hanging over the side and then just held the shower hose to wash myself down. I could get up and out from that position and dried pretty easily without assistance.
I had surgery on mine so was in plaster for a bit before the air boot. My only advice would be start putting weight on it as soon as possible and walk as much on it in the boot as soon as you can. The worse bit is the muscle atrophy that occurs from being in the boot for so long, my calf muscle is still quite a bit smaller 2 years on, so any exercises you can do like leg raises on the sofa while in the boot help.
Good luck.

Yes, we called it the big blue condom. From Boots if I recall correctly.
You have my sympathies, spent 6 months in the boot (2 ruptures and then surgery) , 24 hours a day. I found the full length waterproof covering better than anything else, certainly the suggested lean on a chair and use crutches to get in and out!
Get a proper one, the first cheepo version from amazon was rubbish.
And when you get to the end of all this, do as your physio tells you, the stretches makes the recovery far better.

I assume it didn’t heal properly first time then?
Don’t know why, but it’s relatively pain free (certainly wasn’t particularly painful when it snapped, but people around me heard it go…) until I go to bed, and then from about 2am it feels like there’s a hot needle being jabbed in it.
Yes, I must say the NHS didn't cover themselves in glory - tried to heal the 1st rupture through nonsurgical path, all seemed to go to plan but ruptured again almost immediately after I came out of the boot. I then started pushing to have surgery but was met with procrastination and indecision until they finally scanned the ankle at which point it was clear that it wasn't healing itself.
Then booked into surgery and then back to the process of reducing the heal insert for a third time.
All in all a very frustrating experience, particularly as I did exactly what they said to do at all times to protect the repair despite the heat (Summer 2018).
It's not a painful injury if you fully snap the tendon, just feels odd.

I was right - I bought the cover from Boots - it was a Bloccs rubber sock. As above, go for the full length. No longer available from Boots, but Amazon now sells them, of course.

That thread gives me a few concerns…!
Being self employed I need to get back to work asap.
I’m halfway through a job at the moment so really need to get on and get it finished, so will see what I can do with the boot on.
Went for a little drive today in my car which is an auto, but with a normal size brake pedal and the boot doesn’t interfere with it.
My van though is a manual, so no chance of driving that.
3 years ago I spent 16 weeks in an ankle to thigh brace for a detached MCL, and also had a dislocated shoulder with detached ligaments at the same time, and that nearly sent me over the edge mentally.
Determined to not let this current issue do that again!
