Well that was a waste of time. I booked my jab 3 or so weeks ago at my local suitable centre (Avanti Meadows). Received an email from NHS and also text message of my appointment. Great.

Drove 40 mins to the centre this morning and it is closed down and has been closed for 2 weeks.

There was an NHS worker on his phone walking about. He told me the above and said try another centre to which I replied I'm booked in here via the NHS bookings site so will my booking be honoured? To which he replied probably not.

So I am un-vaccinated. No contact details on either the text message or the email from the NHS - who do you moan to about this sort stuff (apart from here of course)??

Go back on the website and rebook, there is a number on there to ring or try a drop in centre.

My first experience of trying to book a lateral flow test has been a frustrating waste of time. Jumped through all the hoops registering myself for online booking. Filled out the questionnaire required and then filled out my requirement. Last stop is ‘choose your test centre from drop down box’ the box displays ‘no data.’ so I can’t book my test and don’t know where the centre for testing is. PIA doesn’t cover it, hopeless.

Under certain circumstances you can have them delivered to you: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral...

I did this, took a test and logged the negative result on-line. All hassle-free.

When I went to pick up lateral flow tests for our nursery kids the place was full of people saying no for nursery kids.
It was dead, no one there, just tents and staff.

I said I’d been told nursery kids was all ok two weeks earlier by their nursery, so while I was nearby I’d popped in to get some.

They finally loaded up website on their phones, which they seemed to struggle with, and there it was in black and white.
Kits in hand and away I went.

I can only assume that for over two weeks not one person had been in for a lot for their nursery kids, and none of the staff from minion up to a supervisor knew what the policy was.

Just what do they do all day? Sit staring into space?

I eventually went over to the RFT centre after I discovered it whereabouts. I could get an instant test, unfortunately that’s not want I want or need, I wanted to book for the coming Wednesday. No can do they said, we may not be operating then. This is only an emergency test centre so can’t take bookings.
Complete crap system.

Same thing happened to me due to staff shortages, all you can do is log onto the NHS website 24 hours after your missed appointment, confirm you missed it and rebook both vaccines.

No point phoning up as they will just do the above, and it didn't feel right complaining when everyone involved is volunteering.

Why is it 'typical'?
How many other unprecedented global pandemic mitigating national vaccination booking systems run by volunteers, have let you down so badly?

My local charity shop is run by volunteers, would have hoped that fifteen months into a Global pandemic the U.K. might just have mustered something beyond that!
That’s not to say that I do have the utmost respect and admiration of those putting their time and effort into helping combat the covid virus.
Attending a major festival demands meeting certain criteria set by Government, meeting those criteria, or just simply proving, would be possible with the infrastructure in place.
Rant over.

Wouldn't worry about it, likely dodged a bullet there.

Why do you need a test on a specific day?

It’s for the Festival of Speed event, organisers inform that the test must have been conducted within the last 48 hours before attendance at event.
Anyhow my personal crisis is over now, I have managed to eventually download the NHS app which then allows and provides the proof needed that I have had both covid jabs.
Organisers must comply with the Government ‘guidence’ or a trial major event to take place.
It’s been a real run around but got there in end smile

I see, glad you got sorted. Around us you can pop into a few places and just pick them up…also I can get them from work, the boy’s school …got boxes of them at home. I didn’t realise there was a problem getting them…
