I have just bought some of the under armour boxer jock 6 inch to reduce chafing when I run and they seem good so far.
They are tighter, but comfortable as thin, which means there is just less material to rub. The material they are made from is quite shiny (best word I can find to describe) so they sort of slide rather than rub, if that makes sense

In general, then I'd say looser clothing and thinner trousers.
For running, I like Runderwear (expensive) and Sub compression shorts from Amazon. Either way, get them off as soon as you can after a run and get showered.
For a very long run, I use Udderly Smooth chamois cream liberally. Works well for me, but the feeling is akin to stting your pants initially. Lubed bumcheeks is a disconcerting feeling, but 1000% better than chafed cheeks.
