Trigger finger or thumb in my case
Discussion
You wont get surgery on the NHS unless they have tried steroid injections on the affected joint first.
Most GP surgeries offer the injections. Takes 7-14 days to take effect. Can last months or years.
How do i know...over the years ive had injections on numerous fingers n thumbs plus 3 trigger finger release ops

I’ve got trigger finger from the same thing as you. You can get a n injection but you have to stop physical activity with your affected hand for 3 month if I remember correctly.
As I was in the middle of a house renovation myself I couldn’t take that time off. After stopping what was causing it, (excessive hammer and bolster work) it went away.
It only flairs ip if use a hammer for long periods over a few weeks now

I have had trigger finger surgery on my right hand (middle finger), it made a huge difference.
I now have it on my left hand, its very painful, weird how its the joint that often hurts more than where the tendon nodule is going into the sheath. However the left hand is so painful the finger joint hurts but the palm of my hand feels like its on fire. I will probably opt for surgery, as I am fortunate enough to have private health care.
From what I have read the steroid injections dont do much more than reduce swelling in the joint.
I do find that a finger splint worn over night to keep the finger straight and the exercises given to me by the physio do help a bit
