Sign Of A Food Allergy?
Discussion
Three or four times now, over three months or so, while eating, I've suffered an attack of incredibly itchy hands and feet. It lasts five minites or so, and then stops. No visual symptoms, or any other effects.
Brief research suggests it's a form of anaphylaxis, but nothing in what I've eaten appears to be an allergen. Unless it's dairy. But it's only happened at lunchtime. and I have no problem with dairy in anything I eat in the evening (moussaka, lasagne, pizza, cheese etc).
It happens sufficiently sporadically that even if I cut out cheese, I don't know how I'd prove that was the cause just by it not happening again.
Not sure what I'm asking, TBH. Comments?

Anything can be an allergen, if you are looking at things like the FSA they just list the 14 most common. Only real way to diagnose is clinical testing or keep a very accurate food diary. But bear in mind you may be allergic to an undeclared ingredient on premade food, or more likely when eating out.

It could even be a certain cheese rather than CHEESE as a whole. With all the diffrent funguses etc used to make cheeses you might be allergic to soft cheeses like brie but can eat cheddar for example.
The common denominator on each occasion has either been mayonnaise or emmental. Either on its own hasn't triggered anything. Yet.I also have a vague feeling the whatever glands along my lower jaw are slightly swollen.

I've realised milk in my protein shakes has me farting like a butchers dog. No milk, no problem, so it's not the protein. I just blend it with ice now to get the texture I like.
Cheese makes me fart, and it never used to, but that I can live with. This itching is a PITA, even though it's rare.Have you tried some antihistamines - might help with the itching. Any history of coeliac disease in the family? I've heard it's hereditary. If the fart factory is suddenly on overtime, seems a bit of a coincidence with the itching.
ps I've done a quick google of coeliac disease itching, and it seems there is a link, a type of dermatitis with 'severe itching' but with rashes and stuff

No history of coeliacs.
Farting isn't a sugdden development, but it's worse than, say, five years ago. I think it's fun, but my wife disagrees.
No rashes or any other visible symptoms.
Is there anything you are taking at the same time as eating ? Tablets, medicine, drinks ( diet Cola) or might the reaction be to plates, utensils that have contamination on them. I’m allergic to Aspirin and once I got a reaction after drinking water from a glass , which I suspect was still harbouring Aspirin from a previous user.

No, nothing. No other common denominators. I've switched from milk to soya and binned the mayo.Cheese is another matter though...

Oddly enough I've found dairy free (chocolate) results in epic and prodigious levels of farting in me, proper loud rip roarers n'all, where as I'm usually quite a shy and subtle farter.Doofus said:

Cheese makes me fart, and it never used to, but that I can live with. This itching is a PITA, even though it's rare. From what you say it may not actually be food related, possibly environmental. I have a proper, i.e.. 2000mg of antihistamine, to a non-food specific reaction.
You mention a couple of food items such as mayo or cheese. Three allergens, milk, (possible) egg and (possible) mustard. None of which are shared between mayo or cheese.
As suggested, it may not be food but environmental.

The two 'meals' I recall it happening were a turkey club (including emmental and mayo) and a baked potato with tuna (and emmental and mayo). I eat cheese and it doesn't create the itching, but mayo is the only thing I eat which contains mustard. You mention a couple of food items such as mayo or cheese. I tend to be very froggy in the morning, so I decided to remove dairy for a while (which includes mayo) and see what happens. If I feel better, I'll add things back in again, one by one. My wife suggested smearing my face with mayo, to see what happens, but I think she's trying to kill me.
