After struggling all day yesterday with a throbbing knee and unable to put any weight on it I went to A&E.
Blood tests and x Rays done.
Doctor thinks gout.

Crutches and anti inflammatory drugs and a couple of days of rest.

Seriously, what a horrible pain.
When it wasn't hurting like hell, it's was a dull throbbing ache.

(41, 13 stone, couple of weekend bottles of wine and a few beers, reasonably healthy diet, pre covid pretty active playing football a few times a week)

I've had gout a couple of times in a big toe - the classic place. The pain is... remarkable. Ime if it is gout it should be immovably stiff, swollen and feels like the worst bruising you can imagine without actually changing to bruising colours. It clears up by itself in a few days to a few weeks. Gets noticeably better by the day.

Try going teetotal. Alcohol, particularly wine, is notoriously bad for it. You may not get another bout for years though.

Same here just the once though. Throbbing & felt like it was on fire. Foot up with ice pack was the only way I could reduce the feeling. Lasted about 4 days.

Ouch!

Water, water, water and more water.
Be careful what anti inflammatories they’ve given as some can play havoc with your guts if you haven’t got something to counteract it.
Then water, water, water and more water.
You don’t have to cut everything out, just all in moderation. There’s a lot of myths as to what can trigger an attack, things like stress or an injury/trauma elsewhere.
Good luck ... did I mention water ?
