I've had a bit of my problem post Christmas with my right hip. It's a bit of a dull tooth ache type pain.

I've always ran a bit but during the lockdowns I've ran more than usual. No issue at all until post Christmas where I had this lingering pain, nothing during a run it would usually kick in a few hours afterwards. So I took a week off thinking it was something minor. Next run out same thing happened so I took a fortnight off, next run same thing so took a month off. Back out today and can feel the same pain coming back.

I'm 38 and otherwise fit and healthy, a bit on the heavier set size to be running a lot at ~16st and 6'4" but never had any issues before.

Anyone has similar? Getting a diagnosis due to COVID will likely be time consuming, currently waiting 12+ months for an ENT appointment....... I'll look to go private if possible. I'm just not sure if it's something that rest will cure or if I just need to stop running entirely.

Cheers

Could be a myriad of things, tight hip flexors lower back problems, hamstrings even, rest up and do some stretching and see what happens. I had to give up running because of hip pain.

Sounds very similar to my symptoms of a tight IT band. It's more common to experience knee pain I believe, but some feel it in the hip.

Stretching, foam rolling and (if possible) massaging helped me.

Might it be the obvious thing of your hip getting worn? If it is your hip it will get worse over time. I had one of mine replaced last summer, the world's a different place now. Your age isn't too young to be having hip problems if that's what you're thinking. You could just bite the bullet and pay for a private consultation/x-ray, price isn't that bad just for that. At least then you'll know if it can be ruled out. And if it is bad news you should be ideal for a metal resurfacing which could last your lifetime, although they're not allowed to claim that officially. You sound at an early stage though so no panic.

Could be lower back problem, nobody will know without checking it out. Right now my hip and calf are sore. Its from the back though. Thankfully easing off now so another day or two and it'll be gone until next time. Shame we cant get back replacements.

If the pain has coincided with an increase in running, it's likely connected to that. A private MRI scan is the way to go. I've had various knee, ankle and hip issues through running over the years, and the hip is always the most tricky to diagnose and the longest to clear up.

There are sooo many things it could be. You know the right answer is to seek professional medical advice, rather than ask a bunch of randoms on an internet forum, right?

Do that.

(Hopefully it's nothing serious and they get you sorted sharpish.)
