For the last couple on months I've suffered from neck pain. It comes on late evening such that most nights I go to bed with a couple of paracetamol. These last for a few hours then the pain wakes me up and I take a couple more. The pain is at the top of my neck/base of my skull like a bad hangover. I've stopped drinking so it's not that. In the morning my neck clicks and crunches until I loosen it up in the shower. I've seen the Doctor and a Physio gave me some stretches but they make it worse if I do them as instructed but lower intensity helps. I use one pillow and I'm thinking a neck pillow may help. Anyone recommend one?

Spending a lot of time looking at a phone or something?

My neck has been knackered for months due to excessive PH while cooking dinner on an evening... and it’s worse the more I look down at phone.

Do you sleep with your arms 'up'?
This could cause the issue. Many other possible reasons too.

I use a neck roll from Amazon, all the posh neck posture/memory foam things just made it worse.

Its basically a stuffed tube that supports my neck, I really suffer without it.

Cost about £10

Have you got a desk job? Could be posture when sitting?

Not been looking at my phone more but have cycled to work fairly regularly on an old school mountain bike. So low, narrow bars.

Partly desk based but am conscious of my posture and try to sit up straight. I also have single focus glasses so not trying to look through the bottom lens all the time.

Shared a bottle of Rioja last night for the first time in a while and had the worst neck/headache last night. Feel fine this morning though.

I need my monitor about 3" higher than the ergonomics experts tell me, otherwise over the course of a few months my neck gets stiff and clicky. A memory foam pillow has helped enormously in the past.

On the last change I went for a duck down pillow instead, which is very nice and all natural, but slowly the stiffness is returning. So I have raised the monitor again and ordered one of these

Happy to report back after a week or two.

So I got a neck pillow and stopped cycling so much and it's much better now.

Same here. Between removing the suspected cause and getting the neck pillow above, mine has gone back to normal.

These are supposed to be very good for your type of neck issues.

I use a shakti mat and neck pillow. Hurts like buggery at the time but seems to do the job

Very late to see this.

OP - if you're still having issues, whereabouts on the south coast are you?
