HDL/LDL anyone changed it for the better?
Discussion
Wow, statins. I'm not a doctor or have any medical training but I have been researching all things nutrition and health related for well over a year now. Cholesterol, big big subject. Basically what we've understood about it for decades is turning out to be misguided. Google Ancel Keys and you'll see what I mean. Deep deep rabbit hole. Did your doctor test for triglycerides? Or just LDL/HDL?
Have you had a heart attack? If so, there is a place for statins which is now thought primarily to do with their anti-inflammatory effects rather than anything to do with cholesterol lowering. If you haven't had a heart attack then there is absolutely no reason to put statins into your body, end of. Don't take my word for it though, DYOR. There's a lot of knowledge out there that is finally coming to the surface to shine a light on the medical mistakes of the past. Ancel Keys is Ground Zero in this respect. I'm sure he meant well.

No heart attack had atrial fibrillation a few weeks ago, triglycerides are fine!Have you had a heart attack? Is your doc actually threatening you with statins? Or is he suggesting "improving" your diet? Hopefully it's the latter, in which case there's nothing wrong with that. Just be aware though that the more enligtened within the medical and research community have realised that what their colleagues have been telling us for decades is turning out to be upside down. If he suggests cutting out/down on meat and reducing saturated fat then you should be suspicious of his advice. But as I said, DYOR.

I was put on statins. The side effects will give you cause to read about them. I'll spare you some of the trouble - they benefit only men who have had a heart attack. Very profitable though, and pushed very hard at all demographics.
As a result of this, apart from changing doctor, I started getting my bloods done myself, switched to keto and then carnivore, and watched my TG:HDL ratio invert. I don't worry about the total as long as the profile is healthy, that is
- low triglycerides
- high HDL
You also want low inflammation, measured as C-reactive protein "CRP".
Talk to your doctor about these things, if you trust them.
