Anyone else suffer from this? Is it an age thing? Is it the alcohol? Is it the covid lockdown times we're in just now? Combination of all 3?

Not talking a massive session here, just a few drinks. Last night I had 3 bottles of bud light and a can of fruit cider over 5 hours and thats all i had all week. Barely felt the affects of the alcohol yet woke up feeling horrendous (hard to explain but certainly not a hangover that i would experience if it was a dozen pints). Was the same last week and started noticing a pattern these days. Booze consumption is down about 80-90% from pre-covid days (No football to go to, no pubs to drink in).

Hope it passes. Enough to make me hit it on the head!

Yep, I’m 41 and have noticed a considerable slide to post drinking anxiety, doesn’t matter if I have 4 beers or 10, get same anxiety feeling the following day. Also noticed that the actual hangovers are much worse, pretty much wipes me out for the entire day.

I do love a cold beer but have taken some steps that have helped: I now only drink weak beer (4.0%) like bud light or coors, drink fewer times a week (maybe once), try to “call it a night” much earlier than normal, don’t play/text on phone when drinking. This was a major cause for post drink anxiety. Start running or exercise

Aye thats the thing, it would be understandable if it was one of those away days and 12+ pints drinking all day type things. Wake up with the fear after that thinking who and what the hell was i texting last night, hungover as hell etc. This is just 3 bottles and a can though, over a night with a meal. Strange feeling.

Also opting for lower strength these days. Bud light is 3.5%, Tennants now do a 3.5% bottle, Aldi's do a "Scottish lager" in cans at 3.5% and Amstel have released a 3.0% which is surprisingly nice for the booze content.

I used to suffer from 'the fear' for days after drinking in my 20s, now approaching 50 it now rarely happens.

Im 48. I sank 16 bottles of Corona on Friday during a `boys` Zoom call. Felt rough all Saturday.

Hang overs have more of an affect now and are awful, however what is worse is going through your phone looking at the crap you've texted, whatsApped to people :-) Face, twitter and Inst dont escape either ! :-)

My phone should be taken from me when I drink.

Was a good night though.

It may be something to do with the high sugar content(fruit cider) and chemical beer. From personal experience if I drink cheap crappy beer and spirits I have problems with my sinuses if higher quality stuff no issues.

Random as it sounds it also makes my knees ache! Yes honestly!

Age too I think, Takes me a week to fully recover from a proper session now.

I did stop drinking (don't know why, not consciously just stopped) for the best part of a year, felt a lot better and lost a good deal of weight.

I suffered from this before I knocked it on the head, this wasn't just a wonder who I texted last night, this was severe anxiety the next day, almost terror.

After a lot of reading on the effects of alcohol and what it was doing to me and the fact alcohol anxiety is a sign of withdrawal I decided nope, not going down that path.

I suffer from this myself. Makes me think twice about drinking to a degree and must admit, it's down to 2 or 3 times a month now.

I always assumed it was down to the resultant terrible nights sleep I'd have.

When I read "Morning after anxiety after a couple of drinks" I thought "Oh yeah, but I'm sure she would have phoned by now after 35 years"biggrin

For health/weight/fitness reasons, I haven't had a drink this year. That's coming from someone who has drunk regularly for about 45 years!

I'm wondering what it will be like when I do have a drink, i.e. will one glass of red have me on my back? To be honest, and to my surprise, I haven't really missed it, maybe once or twice over the month I've thought "yeah that would be nice" but not felt any real need for it, which I guess is a good thing.

I think it's referred to as "Post session depression" and is quite common.

Fruit ciders like Koppaberg really disagreed with me, anything that's the wrong colour eg blue also, I got a tightness in my chest. Was starting to get it with some lagers too so knocked all that lot on the head years ago and now the only bottled drink i consume is proper ale. Living happily ever after. Good luck OP.

I also suffered with terrible anxiety after drinking too.

After suffering a severe breakdown in late September I haven’t touched a drop since and have no desire to restart again.

I don’t miss alcohol one bit as I value my mental health far more.

Alcoholic drinks are weak doses of poison. Weirdly I get a pain in my jaw when I drink most of the time.

Its a bot of beer induced Existential dread, I found once I recognised it as such it wasn't so bad, but best avoided all the same. Fry up, a brew, a shower, paracetamol and keep hydrated,

I remember it being horrendous after a session when young, mainly as I had often done something daft and spent loads of money I could ill afford.

Used to get this quite a lot years ago, it would manifest itself driving on motorways the most.
I'd get real anxiety at the thought of not being able to stop or get off the motorway and would find my knee shaking, opening the window to breathe and sweating palms. It was horrible.

Touch wood it's not something that still effects me, but I really can sympathise.

A good example of a medical term being abused and incorrectly ascribed by attention seekers, hypochondriacs and hysterics as
everything between that nagging feeling you left the cooker on to mild fretting about that mole on your shoulder.

I'm 41 and I get this.

1 or 2 drinks and no effects the next day, but once I have a 3, 4 or more and start to feel a little merry, I often get really bad anxiety the next day. Like I'm frightened and nervous all day, and feel panicky and like bad things are about to happen. It's all doom and gloom and I just have this horrible feeling.

It happens independently of a traditional hangover feeling, which I may or may not get depending on how much I drink, and what I drink.

The 'next day anxiety' after a few drinks is really annoying and often distressing.
