Does anyone do it and find it helpful?

I have an iPad and pencil and and the tech, but I'm drawn to pen and paper.

Any tips? A routine? I'm thinking about it to help with sleeping.

Writing is cathartic. Pen and paper is also not lost if the battery dies.

By chance, yesterday, I was reading a couple of diaries I made from the age of 14.

‘How to shave’ was one of my topics. Monster spots afterwards.

Don’t stress yourself and force it. Write your feelings. If there are days you don’t feel like it or not bothered, catch up another day.

Pepys diaries, if you’ve read some of them are seemingly random in nature but tell a whole story.

A wonderful idea. I didn't keep one myself but wish I had (never too late I admit). David Sedaris would agree that it is worth doing.

Yes I keep one, pen and paper, useful to look back at. Just write anything down, but I always give a 1 out of 10 rating for stuff like sleep diet mood etc.
