For nearly two weeks I’ve had a very blocked ear - also have a cough and sore throat so assuming it’s catarrh.
I’ve dosed up on Sudafed Max for those two weeks, and nasal spray that’s supposed to help but it just won’t shift.
I know it’s not wax or anything like that as last week I had to go to ENT for an on going issue with my other ear and they always check your good ear first.
Also tried steam with different oils to no avail.

Really pissing me off now.
Anything OTC I can try?

Ta.

My missus suffers from catarrh quite a lot & we've found that the bottle of Cavonia mucus relief works really well.

She hates having it but if it works then that's all that matters

Mix bicarb with sea salt in small amount of boiling water in small bottle leave to cool then every morning pour small amount up nostrils
by tilting head back and breath in.

Works a treat.

That sounds fking awful! laugh
You’re having me on, right?

I had a Covid test on Sunday - came back negative.

Think I might try the Covonia before I indulge in the salted water boarding...

No I had sinus problems and infections for years and had polyps removed 5 times by various operations.

A consultant recommended the nasal douche I have mentioned and advised not to waste money on Sterimar sprays and the like.

Seawater (clean) is as good.

It works a treat for sinus infections believe me!

Make sure you sterilise the bottle with boiling water before you add the mixture.

Blimey..

It’s worth a try I suppose.
However - says not to use if you have blocked ears or have had ear surgery.
I’ve had 12 operations on my right ear and have no mastoid cavity or bones in my middle ear, but last surgery was about 5 years ago.

The issue I have at the moment is in my left ear.

Wow £18 for a bit of salt and bicarb!

Make your own for a few pennies.

I’ve been doing this daily for a couple of years now, always have nasal phlegm which collects at night, drains down my throat and then results in plenty of chest infections, which causes me asthma problems.

Yes, the cost for a salt/bicarbonate mix is a bit steep, but having a handy sachet is worth a few quid I think. I use the squirty bottle, not the netipot (like a little teapot!) and it’s amazing how much gunk can get washed out. The water can collect in your sinus and then trickle out hours later, which is a bit of a pain.

I wouldn’t have thought it will ‘wash your ears out’ directly, but it’s all interlinked so probably worth a go. My ears can feel blocked when I’m full of phelgm, and I’ve never not used the nasal rinse because of that.

This has just been recommended for my other half by the specialist doctor he went to see. Has worked a treat.

He was given a sheet by the doctor with the formula to make his own so after the initial purchase it is a very cheap solution. Definitely worth a try.

I went to Boots today to pick up some of the Covonia stuff mentioned - also picked up a box of the nasal flush.
I know, £18 and all that, but I’m lazy....

Anyway, can’t say it’s a nice experience but it gave my lad a good laugh watching me.
How long does it take to see any results?
Head feels really full today.

He saw noticeable results were after about 10 days.

In the old days I used to make up prescriptions for nasal insufflations. Not allowed on scripts now though (due to cost not because they didn’t work) They were never popular though because they were a bit awkward to use. Funny that the specialist is now recommending them.

Don't forget to have your mouth open when squirting the salt water up your nose. Otherwise you end up drinking it- yuk...
I have found it works immediately in the sense it washes stuff out of the nose/sinuses - but sometimes I have needed to do it two or more times a day. Warmer water feels a bit nicer - but hard to get the sweetspot when you're waiting for boiled water to cool down enough...

Well, been doing it twice a day, along with steaming with eucalyptus crystals (fk me, they make your eyes sting!)
Also been having the Covonia stuff and using a Sudafed nasal spray.
Nothing shifting yet..

When I lie on my back it clears slightly, but as soon as I stand again it comes back.
It’s winding me up now....

Edit to say - still no sinus or ear pain.

I find that’s the best time to do it, helps wash stuff out!

I may have squeezed the bottle too hard - bit of blow back that sprayed everywhere...
