Hi,

My Father in Law has atrial fibrillation and has become breathless during minor tasks. The NHS are taking their time so he is considering going private. He does not have insurance.

Has anyone got any recommendations around the Preston area. He would be adverse to travelling.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,
A couple of questions...
Who diagnosed him? How was he diagnosed (was it a portable monitor or did he happen to be in AF at the time of diagnosis?)? Is he on an anti-coagulant and if so which one? When you say that the NHS are dragging their feet, what's the current plan in terms of investigations or appointments?

When you say he's not keen to travel, is that beyond Preston or would you venture to Liverpool?
If Liverpool isn't too far then I can recommend Derick Todd. He's a very nice doctor who is a medical advisor to the AF Alliance which is the patient group so he's more than aware of the importance of the patient actually being a part of the process rather than merely the vector of a disease which needs to be treated. In addition to that he's very good at what he does!

My perspective on this is that I'm a doc but I now work in healthcare technology. Dr Todd was someone that we sought expert advice from and the counterpoint to that is that he's tied in with the latest developments and data.
