Something I’m considering

Got 2 kids we don’t plan on having any more missus feels she’s done her part so doesn’t want to have an implant or anything else and she doesn’t gel with the pill,

So my questions are: is there any difference?
Has it affected moods?
Has it affected sex life?

Words of advice either for or against?

Absolute piece of cake and it made no difference to anything other that she wont be getting up the duff.
Mrs Marky even sat next to the Doc at the business end and watched but being a nurse she is weird like that.

GP did mine in the surgery a couple of years ago. I was home, on the settee working away by 10.30am. In a bit of pain when the stuff wore off in the afternoon, but nothing majorly uncomfortable. Most uncomfortable is having the GP handling the man bits whilst making small talk (although of course, the organ in question warranted big talk)

For clarity: was it you talking to the GP? Or was she doing the small talk? smile

A bit like the old joke about asking the doctor if you will be able to play the violin when your broken arm heals, having never been able to play the violin....
....if you were having a good sex life before it may well continue afterwards, if not then it is unlikely to start afterwards wink

I had it done about a year ago. Slight discomfort as they manipulated things to get the tubes positioned before any incisions, but otherwise it was fine.

I had very mild discomfort while standing for about a week afterwards, but it was fine. Sex life has been unaffected.

Offered to provide a sense of balance, nothing more.
I had it done 25years ago and in hindsight it was the worst decision of my life so far. I’ve had constant troubles with my balls ever since, reoccurring discomfort and pain, mainly caused by scar tissue on the cuts through the vas deferens. Apparently it’s much more common side effect than they let on! The good bits are great, lots of no risk sex, but the downside for me has been worse.
Interesting chat I had with my urologist who has just sorted out my prostate, his view was that he would never have it done and the risks of long term discomfort are quite high.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Had it done years ago (10 maybe), no regrets at all.

A bit sore for a week or so but that's it.

Yup , my wife and also nurse did the same and loved every minute . Some sort of revenge for the times I watched her giving birth , who knows rolleyes
OP it's a bit uncomfortable , but nothing more , and a lot easier than putting your wife through the procedure . MTFU and get it done .

I would have thought that in itself would have been a pretty effective form of future contraception hehe

I tend not to post personal things on the internet but I’m going to make an exception here. For most people getting a vasectomy is fine and trouble-free. For a small percentage of people (as with most ops) there is a risk of complications. I’ve had those complications. I had it done 15 years ago after the birth of our third. I’ve had 15 years of chronic pain and I would not have done it had I known what pain it would deliver. I’ve struggled to walk several times in the last 15 years and it’s been a b*gger. So go ahead, but please be aware that there is a chance that you’ll have chronic epididymitis - unlikely, but possible. If I could wind back the clock I would have left them well alone. Good luck whichever route you choose.

Wow, sorry to read that W1bbles. frown

I had the snip about 17 years ago. The hospital booked those appointments to Friday mornings so you have the weekend to recover from any discomfort and be back at work on Monday. The Dr recommended that I wear a snug pair of Speedos for a few days immediately after the op, to stop the nads jangling. I was fine after.
Took me a long time to fill the beaker for the post op swimmers test, though. wink

Has if affected moods? Not that I can recall. Either that, or "I'm always a grumpy bd.")
Has it affected my sex life: No!

I had it done 2/3 years ago. It wasn't too bad. The initial injections and the pulling feelings were the worst bits.

I still get aches and pains down there now. Nothing terrible, but noticeable.

Sex life improved afterwards.

This is likely very true - if your partner is using your fertility/risk of pregnancy to justify lack of sex, then it's probable that she'll find some other excuse after you've been neutered.

If I was in a happy, long term relationship and neither of us wanted any more kids, then I'd be prepared to get the snip. But realisitcally, I'm of the age (40) that I'm unlikely to get in that situation with a woman who isn't getting close to menopause anyway. I know it's fairly rare, but the risks of complications (long term pain etc) put me off a bit. And until I'm with a long term partner, there's always the chance that I might meet someone and more kids became a possibility. I was chatting to a (divorced) female friend and the subject of vasectomies came up. I explained that I wouldn't have one 'just in case' I met someone who wanted kids. That touched a nerve for her because her husband had refused to get it done, and I'd just made her realise why (probably anyway, guess there could be other reasons).

One of the remaining inequalities of the sexes is that women have a plethora of choices of very effective, yet reversible contraceptives. Whereas men can either bag it or have their plumbing hacked about like the family pet, both of which are fairly crude.

A cross post life’s from the thread linked above but relevant..

Yup, I echo this. I’ve mentioned it here before I think.
I’m now 5 years in, still have pain in my left nut. Ranges from a dull ache to horrific ‘just been kicked in the nuts’ pain. I have to be careful when drying after a shower and wearing jeans can be uncomfortable.
I’ve had an ultrasound and more examinations than I care to count and the doctors are clueless. It’s so bad I’m actually contemplating paying private to have my nut removed.

The update being I’m now 8 years in. I still get daily aching but less pain if that makes sense. Still careful when drying. I haven’t had to go to hospital for the pain for a few years now so am just getting on with it.

If I could wind the clock back I wouldn’t have it done.
