Laser Eye Surgery- Clinics?
Discussion
Hi All,
Sorry if this is frequently asked, I did search but nothing came up that wasn't 4 years old.
I'm considering laser eye surgery, I'm 39, in the North West (near Blackpool) and I have eyes which have been stable for a few years with very minimal changes in my prescription which is-
Left Eye
Sph= -1.25
Cyl= -1.75
Axis= 18.0
Right Eye
Sph= -2.00
Cyl= -1.25
Axis= 175.0
Finding a clinic seems to be a bit of a minefield, much searching hasn't really given any clear results North of London. I'm happy to go to London if that is what it takes, but I would rather not, especially if repeat trips are required for follow up/check ups etc.
Anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks in advance
Matt

hey Matt, i was minus 2.5.
i would recommend having it done at Moorfields eye hospital in London, book a two night stay in a hotel, job done.
I had a great time and the operation itself was amazing to experience. would do it again once my eyes worsen.
i have large eyes and i did get side effects (haloing at night) but it was well worth it and i just wear anti glare glasses to drive after dark.

Thanks for that Carl.
Did you have to make any trips there other than for the surgery?
I.e. was it once for a consultation, then another for surgery, and then how many for after care?
You must go for a check in the day after the surgery (appointment 3) this is mandatory, i had to have a lense repositioned by the surgeon the day after because i was a numpty and tried to walk home unaided and without protective plastic glasses after the surgery. I went again the following day (appointment 4) because of this and then a few weeks after (appointment 5) for a quick checkup and eye test.
Take protective plastic glasses to wear after the op don’t take them off until the checkup (wear through the night) and also get a taxi after the surgery if the hotel is far, if you do this you should only visit four times: pre-consultation, operation, checkup and then final checkup.
i didn’t wear protective glasses and suffered as a result.

did it correct all your problems? any dry eye or bad symptoms after surgery was complete?i would recommend having it done at Moorfields eye hospital in London, book a two night stay in a hotel, job done.

Is there some confusion over what is being discussed here? I think the OP is looking at corrective laser refractive surgery but the poster above is talking about having a lens repositioned which indicates a RLE operation.Unfortunately the best poster on the subject (968) no longer does so but this is one of the past threads although it is rather old:

You try contacting him through his profile page but I didn't get a response when I tried. Note his views on age - you are at the tail end of the optimum age range as your sight will probably start to deteriorate in the next few years.
There have been a number of previous threads you could look through:

No pain at all after 24 hours. you have dry eyes for about 4 weeks and you need to use eye drops.
My operation was done by this surgery:

I had laser correction using wavefront for short sightedness.

The lense slip was just a mild post surgery re-adjustment caused by me and it was solved by the surgeon the next day.

I also had mine done by Julian in 2015. Julian also did my father’s eyes several years previously. I have better than 20:20 vision now, previously I was -8.5 in both eyes. The advice I got at the time from my father (a surgeon himself) is to go to a surgeon instead of a high street chain. Certainly if you Google a bit there are some terrible experiences with these ‘Laser Express’ style businesses. Your eyesight is not to be cheaped out on!No pain at all after 24 hours. you have dry eyes for about 4 weeks and you need to use eye drops.

Julian is also a petrolhead - he was restoring an Aston when I last saw him.
I would recommend the Royal Eye Hospital in Manchester. Its where people in the northwest go if someone else botches their operations.
I'm not sure how I booked it now but a quick google suggests this is the same place - https://www.laservision.co.uk/hospitals/laser-eye-...
I had Lasek but they will talk you through all the options. Mine was done about 15 years ago and it is brilliant - no issues and better than 20/20 eye sight.
PS - I think this tallies with the chap above - get a consultant to do the work not someone at a high st chain!!

Morning all, just reporting back.
I went with Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (Laservision) in the end.
Lasik with Wavefront, consultation on the 17th of December, Surgery on the 23rd of December, and follow up on the 24th of December.
So far, so good. I have 20/20 on one eye, and better than 20/20 in the other eye, will see what happens as the eye's heal.
Very happy, the world is now widescreen, should have done it years ago
Thanks
Matt

Been considering this for a while myself, I'm 31 but last 2 years or so my eye sight has started getting worse.
Whats the costs roughly? might have to invest in the next few years.
Depends what you need, mine was complicated with multiple surgeries on Harley Street and ~ £10k. Surprised me actually as I was expecting it to be more. Most places offer some kind of finance option. Whats the costs roughly? might have to invest in the next few years.
