Apologies first for the not so nice topic but wondering if anyone has had similar symptoms. Sometimes about half an hour of eating ill get diarrhoea and then have a stomach ache for the rest of the day with one or two more trips to the loo. There doesnt seem to be any particular food that triggers it and it can be something as normal as a roast dinner.

I seem to be getting it now once every 1-2 weeks and wondered if anyone else has had this. I had a bad stomach for a couple of months at the beginning of the year but then started taking Yakult ever day and it went (could be a coincidence). I will go to the Drs if it persists but not really happy at the thought of having to a camera down my throat.

Hate to be the one to break it to you, but if you're getting a camera it won't be down your throat.......

Keep a food diary (Dr will ask you to do this anyway) Note when you're triggered.

Try and isolate a food or food group that way, then cut it out of diet.

if persistent, go to Doctor. If blood or anything present, Doctor immediately.

Acid?

Find yourself craving yoghurt, milk, ice cream, bland foods like cheese sandwiches?

any reflux? sore/burning bumhole after doing ya business? sand or light colour stool?

Drink more water and take a once a day antacid

See a doctor, also if you're getting a camera, it will probably be both ends.

I wouldn't say i crave bland foods but have been eating more plain foods lately and i certainly can't eat anything spicy these days. I have to be careful in what i eat as i seem to be more susceptible to indigestion now im in my late 40's (48). If im not careful then i can (and have) woken up in the middle of the night with acid reflux.

I do have a sore behind sometimes but i put that down to an anal fissure that ive suffered from in the past. Ive also been treated for haemorrhoids in the past.

Doesn't it all begin with getting a sample into a small plastic pot?

Quite how you are supposed to do that, I've no idea. Funnel?

I've always suffered from this sort of thing, and have been fobbed off with "it's probably IBS".

Unfortunately, I've had diarrhoea pretty much every day for the past couple of months so think it's more than IBS this time. Appointment booked for the docs again.

I'd probably say medium, i do currently take Sertaline for anxiety but its more of a background noise then something unmanageable.

Probably not relevant but I lost nearly 3st over the Summer down to under 16st from drinking water, didn't change my eating habits at all. Took a green tea tablet a day which made me feel like I was going to st myself but nothing ever happened. Started to maybe think I was pre diabetic, I was pissing like a fountain about 10 times a day.

Roll on to November and I've put on 1 1/2 stone, or as I like to call it 'winter insulation' not as tired as I was in the Summer and drinking a lot less. I think drinking too much fluid flushed out a lot electrolytes which made me feel tired by the evening.

It could be the first signs of Coeliac Disease - an autoimmune reaction to gluten. I had had a dicky stomach for several months and then one morning felt really off colour and had to sit on the loo for sometime. This lasted several days after eating and eventually went to the doctor, she diagnosed food poisoning and told me to eat plain boiled pasta. Symptoms persisted, went back to Drs frequently over the next few weeks and had lost 2.5 stone in weight - I was only 12.5stone in the first place. Eventually went privately for a second opinion and following the camera down the throat - they don't poke it up the other end and no it isn't as bad as folks make out - was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease. Was told to follow a strict gluten free diet and all would be fine. Within 24 hours I felt much, much better and a steady recovery followed, regaining my weight and energy over the next 9 months. That was 15 years ago and I have kept to a gluten free diet ever since and feel fine.

Coeliac Disease is particularly difficult to diagnose as it presents different symptoms in different people. It is often mis-diagnosed as IBS or as in my case food poisoning. The other issue is that gluten is present in a lot of foods where one would not expect, so difficult to pin down by removing certain foods from the diet.

As has been said already, keep a food diary and note when it happens. It may appear to happen after eating completely unrelated meals but there might be one common ingredient that triggers it. A whey protein shake I used to have would consistently produce this outcome. Onions have this effect on me too, albeit after a couple of hours, unless they've been absolutely cremated in the cooking process.

so long as they give it a rinse in between.

My OH is coeliac and a lot of what youre saying is ringing bells. She used to be able to eat gluten with nothing more than discomfort but it increased to the point very small amounts are now a big deal, fortunately not trace cross contamination amounts.

She also used to be dairy intolerant although since going low-carb its subsided

Chipping away at your physical health, though?

Also, any side effects to Sertraline?
