Not the most active, laid back lifestyle-late 50’s mid-section a beer-dad bod-tried most things over the years till borrowed my sons oculas VR headset a month ago after deciding to give the pub a covid wide berth and love it, lost a stone and feel the best in 20 years....a life change me thinks, anyone else having a positive turning point?

April - May lockdown I definitely gained. I was averaging 12,000 steps a day for work. Remove that and add a lot of beer, only one outcome really. frown

I work from home most of the time now with some light business travel. I took up cycling through the summer and totally got the bug, since the start of August I've lost nearly 3 stone. With the slimming down and big jumps in fitness, I bought a time trial bike and I've upped my training load more to really start building some fitness for next year on the road.

Any further weight losses from here will be much harder earned but there is still some fat to burn. To be fair, it's something I should have started years ago, I should have forseen that I would love it and the health benefits are a valuable bonus to a hobby I love.

Lost 12.5kg (about 17% of my starting bodyweight) and fitter than i've ever been - very lucky to have a home gym (which I actually started using) but also down to using the time to cook different foods and do quite a lot of manual work in the garden.

Lost over a stone in the lockdown, and this was without focusing on what I eat/exercised. I've managed to go from a 40" to a 36". Can't knock it.

3 stone lost for me too! I’m running 25k a week and watching what I eat on weekdays.

Apple Watch + smart scales has really motivated me by tracking the improvements in my weight, BMI etc and also my running pace etc.

The final 1st I need to lose to hit average weight is proving to be more of a challenge!

Complete opposite for me. I used to cycle to work and was 79kilo in Feb, now 92kilo.

My job has been very busy all year so have spent lots of time sat down. There never used to be day where I didn't exercise but there have been many where all i've done is a 30 min walk. I clearly eat and drink too much looking at the weight gain.

This is the only downside of lockdown for me, must find ways to be active.

I bought a Wahoo Kickr indoor trainer just before the lockdown started in March (I am based in Dubai) and covered nearly 800km on that. Now that we can cycle outside again, I have competed in 3 individual 15km time trail races, 1 no. 25km team trail races with 2 more to come, signed up for a 10km individual time trail race and I will probably sign up for the 92km ride in February. I log each ride on my Garmin bike computer and Strava. This has certainly made me up the effort and it has showed what can be done if you push rather than taking it easy.

As a result, I have lost a bit weight, sleeping much better and more focused on work. Mind you, having the alarm go at 04:45 to go cycling does take some effort.

Since the first lockdown in March, I have actually lost 1.5 stones in weight, mostly muscle tissue.

But to compensate, I have put on 3 stones of flab.

Lost around 12 kgs since the beginning of the lockdown. A combination of fewer junk (aka snacks) at work, more cooked-from-scratch meals and more exercise. Want to lose a couple more, get accustomed to not lugging (the equivalent of) a carry-on suitcase around all the time and then go for a few more. smile

I put on weight during the last lockdown and working from home.

I lost a little bit of that weight when I went back to the office due to the fridge not being in easy reach.

But ... I was still carrying a bit extra weight that I knew I should shift.

I was eventually shamed in to loosing it a couple of weeks ago after doing Pete Boast's Flat Track School with a pal of mine and his team, followed by an ironman Karting race straight after that at Teesside.

I was just too fat to move around on those little Honda's with the knock on effect being that my body position was shocking and struggled getting my feet back on the pegs after each corner.
Then I saw the group photo my pal put on his Instagram page and I look like Donkey Kong stood next to the 3 of them!

Karting afterwards cemented the need to shift some timber, I've always been canny handy at Karting, and to some degree I still am. But lap after lap I would pass 3 or 4 karts coming in to, and going around the corners at Teesside, only for them to blow past me on the straights each time.

So from then on all excess sugar has been cut out of my diet, im eating a lot more sensibly, though not denying myself completely and I have also started getting out for long walk each day after work.

I've dropped about 4kg already, but still have a canny few more kg's to go. Then it will be rematch time!

Unfortunately not for me frown

In fact its going the other way. After Xmas I purposefully cut back on booze and started a bit of a diet resulting in a drop of about 4 kilos with a target of 8 kilos. So a good start. smile

Then put of steroids and told to shield at the start of lockdown 1, now shielding through lockdown 2 and unlikely to return to work until next year at the very earliest and even if i do in a less demanding role from now on. Physical exercise is difficult (cant breathe) so apart from no booze and starving myself I feel a bit stuck.

Result... put on about 10 kilos frown

Any suggestions?

No matter what I do/ eat my weight doesn't seem to change. Since lockdown, I've got a puppy so walking 3k a day, run 10k a week, was cycling 20k a week until I fell off, do some weights at home alas no change, just stuck on 67kg...
