Spitting Up Blood
Discussion
Ok after 6 months with this ailment I thought I would ask the collective knowledge of Pistonheads.
Back in May I suddenly had a feeling of blocked ears and a noticeable low humming sound when my surroundings were quiet.
In July after a GP referral I attended a local ENT GP surgery. They diagnosed that my Eustachian tube was operating abnormally and there was nothing that could be done.
Have to say at this point that all this time my hearing has been perfect. In fact with the feeling of blocked ears I seem now to hear low frequency noise more than before.
Since July and now I kind of accepted my fate but I still really want to solve this.
My real symptoms are (1) Sinus and ear pressure and pain; (2) Low hum when very quiet; (3) Spitting of fresh blood say once a week immediately after getting up after sleeping. The blood is fresh not congealed and there is absolutely no scraping of the throat from me. It seems like the blood has trickled down from somewhere. (I sleep on my back). I am thinking that somewhere in my head / sinuses there is a cyst which then bursts releasing the blood.
Initially in May I had a very strong course of antibiotics which was the totally wrong thing to do and left me drained; mouth furry and dry and unable to sleep. After referral I started to use a saline flush and the balloon thing but I am sure that these two things were not effective. I started having paracetamol most nights just to relieve the headaches. I know this was bad so I have now been able to ween myself off it.
One of things I have not checked is tooth decay since my dentist has been closed but I feel that I should do that asap.
Before I make the move to approach my GP again (after lockdown) I thought I would throw this open to suggestions and your wisdom. Thanks.

I had this problem.
I woke up every morning with a mouth that tasted like hot garbage. I'd swish my tongue around my mouth and would have a mouthful of blood, but only ever in the morning.
By pure chance I changed to a soft gauge toothbrush and bought more expensive toothpaste rather than whatever cheap crap my Mrs would buy during shopping and that pretty much put a stop to the mouthful of blood every morning.

Did the ENT GP?? Surgery look up you nose with a long camera? If not you need to see an ENT surgeon who will. Spitting up blood always be seen urgently, not after lockdown.Back in May I suddenly had a feeling of blocked ears and a noticeable low humming sound when my surroundings were quiet.

I would recommend you make an appointment with a private ENT consultant. Don’t waste your time and health trying to get help from the NHS, particularly in its current form. My experience is that if they can’t immediately find out what’s wrong with you, they don’t try particularly hard to pursue further investigation.

Thanks for all your replies. The ENT GP surgery doctor did use a camera but it went up my nose and then back down my throat. What I would have liked was a scan (don't know which) so that they maybe see something on a cross section of my head. I'll keep you informed.
Good idea, get your head scanned asap.Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
