I was speaking to an ex champion boxer this morning, who was extolling the virtues of shilajit.

Anyone tried it?

Thanks for posting. I'd never heard of it before but just had a read about it. Looks like one of those wonder supplements that prevents/cures just about everything.

What did this Championship boxer tell you about how it benefits him/her?

Keeps his test numbers up he believes and he looks quite young for his age.

I've ordered some to see if it makes me any more awesome.

It's not, but you should never take anything like this without a discussion with your doc.
And no, I don't take it. I don't eat anything I'm not happy with nor pop any pills if I can help it. I'm hard pushed to take painkillers unless necessary, for example a headache. But then I can't recall my last headache. Plenty of aches and pains, but that's normal at my age! I even had aches and pains when young. It's called life and living. Taking drugs of any kind is not my idea of 'living', I saw enough of my friends in the 60s ruin their lives that way. The best way is this thinking which some of us formed back then - 'My mind is my own and I intend to keep it that way' - there are loads of things out there that can interfere with your mind. Don't let it.

You can get everything you need to be healthy by simply eating a proper balanced diet.

Although, as a herb Shilajit is natural and safe, you shouldn’t consume raw or unprocessed shilajit. In raw form it may contain heavy metal ions, free radicals, fungus, and other contaminations that can make you sick.

But then the same people who will say it is snake oil, will highly likely be consuming st like Coke by the litre and fast crap food that's about as good for you as snake oil itself. Oh, the irony!

I've tried it and it gave me the same feeling that creatine does.

So better energy and a slightly more alert feeling, both physically and mentally.

TBH I would just stick with creatine. It's better researched and cheaper. Unless you have prostate trouble...

That sounds more like ephedrine you were taking.

Creatine used to make me blow up like a balloon, but I did better at hard endurance type stuff. No gains in terms of alertness.

Ephedrine made me a bit alert, a bit hot and I couldn't pee properly.

The problem with creatine is it makes you want to pee a lot!

As it promotes DHT production it will improve cognition, verbal acuity, visual acuity, response time, memory, mood and endurance (if your test/estrogen are in fairly healthy ranges) I think on average most weightlifters see more reps on it (as you mention hard endurance) and any additional increase in strength is down to increased water retention, i.e. your weight has gone up which makes it easier to perform certain heavy lifts.

I wouldn't recommend using it all the time for anyone prone to MPB, or prostate health.
