Anyone else on these injections? I've been on them for a good tn years and get them every 12 weeks but last year feeling worse after 8 weeks and numbness in one toe and hand and graducally to the other. Blood tests show a reading of 600 after 10 weeks the high noraml as normal range now is 900 was 1100. It is 1200 in Japan I think and many people ask for an 8 week injection but dont get it. You cant get one from a chemist.

I was on them. I had a score of 96 apparently and they instantly put me on them and said they were for life, however with coincident with COVID they said the local health authority has stopped all injections due to costs and ineffectiveness. I was every 12 weeks before.

If you do some research, whilst you can’t buy them here, you can buy and self inject from genuin pharmacies abroad, Germany being a particularly popular source where it’s available without prescription. I guess I shouldn’t encourage that, but where there’s a will there’s a way. In theory you could do do yourself on week 6 and then get the normal one on week 12 - see if that cures your symptoms.

I have the injection every 8 weeks, but, was unable to get an appointment over lockdown.

Like a lot of people, I sourced my own from Germany, and, I currently top myself up if I feel I need it.

When it comes to cost... a 1mil vile(?) is absolute peanuts!

Hi

Thank you both.

Yes, I too have read about "Germany" and sourcing b12 injections.

Yes they are cheap as chips and a disgrace that some areas are, were neglecting those in need.

I'm lucky as in london our surgery carys on via nurse.

However, feeling unwell - had a chat with GP via phone and he dismissed my symptoms as I get them earlier and earlier. My jabs are at 12 weeks but
start feeling unwell earlier and earlier. but my b12 blood readings show 480 to 650 a week or so before the injection ie at 11 weeks. GP treid to fob me off with tablets and a blood test and f-ing blood tests are taking 4 weeks due to shortages so i cited NICE and reiterated my symptoms and he reluctantly agreed one off 8 week injection and i will get a blood test but that will be ok for B12.

The range for b12 was 150 to 11 I thing now its 100 to 900 last few years but up to 1200 in Japan.

Like any vitamin it can do harm if too much.

Can I ask you whay you get 8 weelky and that is within NICE recommdations. Are you blods very low after 8 weeks if no injection?

Do you get symptoms nearing the jab time?

Thanks

Regarding the 8 weeks, I requested it, and got changed from 12.

Doing yourself is pretty easy, took me ages to push the needle into my thigh the first time smile

Thank you again. May I ask if you had blood done and what were the readings on these?

One nurse use to give it to me in the bum but the newer nurse does the arm but they will
only do with gp consent. First few yrs the GP did the jab.

NICE recommends a jab every 8 or 12 weeks but I can't ascertain why the 8 week one as gp's are hot on bloods/B12 levels
as too high can mean risks of cancer. Not sure if they go that right but confusing as with orals B12 any excess
soon comes out of the water works. However, as I have jabs it goes into the blood stream so i guess
they could be a risk.

Did you ever get the 12 weekly and if so what happemd to get you to 8 weeks, please?
Thanks

IANAD (physiologist/pharmacologist by degree), but injection can't be into blood, surely it's SC (subcutaneous) or IM (intramuscular) to allow for slow release over the 8 or 12 wks.

B vitamins are water soluble, so any your body doesn't need just gets excreted. Only the fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E & K) are stored to any degree.

Plus low B12 is associated with memory impairment and a form of dementia, so I'd be giving GP piece of my mind about not inducing that in my later years.

Sorry, I can’t remember the exact history involved in getting mine reduced to an 8 week interval. BTW, I’m injecting still, so that I’m about 4 weeks between.

As mentioned above, the injection goes into the muscle, I do mine into my thigh, as it’s more practical, for self administration.

There is a very good, and helpful group on Facebook, if you use it?
