Anyone on here with experience of Dupuytren's contracture? I've got the tell tail swirls on my palms, and my left little finger has a distinct curve to it. It doesn't affect me yet, and I have been referred up to the local hospital. I don't know what to expect, anyone got any first hand experience, no pun intended.

I’ve not, but my FIL has suffered.

After several years his left hand became semi closed and whilst was ok for most things in life - was uncomfortable. He had a private operation and the results were great - see a pretty minging recovery pic below.

When all was healed it looked absolutely fine with minimal scarring and could be pushed pretty much flat. Now several years on it hasn’t regressed.

His other hand is getting worse. When he gets round to it he will not think twice about having another op.

In the meantime can you could be given Xiapex injection at hospital to treat it to stave off need for surgery

I’ve only got round to seeing my GP today, it will be eighteen weeks before I see the consultant, I presume he will make a decision as to what treatment I will receive. Hopefully an injection, my hobbies are off road cycling and playing guitar/banjo, so not really looking forward to any surgery.

Yep, unfortunately I have it (passed down from my dad). He had an op on both hands a few years ago, but is basically down to 3 fingers on each hand now, the little and next fingers are bent right into the palm as the surgery was too late.

I have distinctly bent little and next fingers on both hands and for some reason large lumps on the knuckles of all fingers too. Had the lumps removed from one finger 3 years ago and they returned within a year twice as bad so I've not bothered since. Cold/wet weather is horrible, they are next to useless and if I knock a knuckle on something it is agony. Last time I went to the specialist was 3 years ago and he was surprised the curvature of my fingers was so bad for someone of my age (I was 33 at the time).

Don't know where you are in the country, but found the Pulvertaft hand clinic at Derby hospital to offer very good treatment and service for the condition in both my hands.

While everyone with Peyronie's has Dupuytren’s, not everyone with Dupuytren’s has Peyronie’s.

That is what I tell myself…
