Been feeling unusually run down of late which coupled with a few other things resulted in a visit to the doctors who performed a blood test.

Results came back and my liver ALT function is around double the upper limit. My last test results from a few years back apparently showed higher than normal (but not high enough to cause concern) results. Lots of questions from the doctor about unprotected sex and alcohol consumption.

I don't drink much at all - maximum is 2 pints and maybe a glass of wine or two per week.

Should I be concerned or is this just going to be a blip and all will be well again shortly?

Holy thread resurrection!

SBDJ - I hope you're well. What was the outcome of this for you?

My dad's just had his liver enzymes done and everything's fine except his ALT, which is 79. Seeking reassurance it's just a blip — he's not overweight or a big drinker.

I have issues with my Liver function and i have monthly blood tests due to one of the drugs i'm on.

From memory 79 is top end of normal range, i think normal range stops at 80.

I'm regularly at 100+ and its not a major issue.

Mine has been around 100 for 10 years. I’m probably around a stone overweight and only drink once every few months.

I don’t really notice any ill effects but it would be nice to fix.

I had both my ALP and ALT raised in a blood test back in April, will be getting tested again soon. Had just recovered from covid/cold at the time so doctor reckons it was due to that but let’s see..

Re-test shows that ALT has reduced slightly but ALP has increased a bit. Another test called gamma GT has also come back as high. There is also a test for AST which is normal (as is Bilirubin). Getting concerned now as I don't drink nor am I overweight so suspect the doc will be ordering scans.

I had no idea this had been going on a decade!

I'm doing about as well as can be expected to be honest - I lost my oldest son a month ago and it's completely turned my world upside down. Actually I'll say I'm completely messed up and distractions with work and the like is probably vital in retaining my sanity!

Anyway being run-down was unrelated and sorted smile

Ultrasound tests at the time revealed nothing to really worry about and I was diagnosed with a fatty liver.

I was actually seen in hospital a little while ago with some excruciating chest pain (right side) and a blood test showed my ALT and now ALP levels were elevated. They wanted a retest which was done recently and they are still ever so slightly elevated (62 and 156). Normal ALT is 10-35 apparently.

My last few BP tests have all been high too, so perhaps it's time for me to give the GP a call about it all, although perhaps not the best time to be checking my BP!
