As part of various exercise classes my wife has expressed an interest in getting a jump rope and hula hoop for home, eBay/google through up hundreds of options, have to admit I quite fancy it too!

Can anyone suggest anything?

Also any other random things to try - unicycle?

Skipping is good, excellent for warming up/cooling down.

I always find cheap ropes like are the best for how I use them:

As a warm up I do 3 x 3 rounds mins of skipping 15 sec sprint skip 15 sec normal. Just adjust the durations to suit your fitness level.

If your not the best at using a rope, as most things practice helps.

As a side note, I've never used a hula hoop, cant help on that one.

Oh, you may want to try kettlebells: http://amzn.to/1pqY2nL

She'd be best off starting with 8kg and you 12kg, though.

Rather than start a new thread, i thought i would resurrect this one!

I have two skipping ropes, a cheapo pvc ebay special which is good but the pvc is not supple enough and a ball bearing version with wire rope which is great for speed.

Im looking for a better pvc version (no ball bearing) and came across Rush Athletics and Dope Ropes - i don't mind the price but are they worth it or just overhyped regular ropes?

https://doperopes.co.uk/collections/all/products/t...

any other ropes anyone can recommend?

Skipping rope with ball bearings in the handle.

TK Maxx often have reasonably good ones.

Practice makes perfect
