Learned the hard way the difference between proper seasonal flu and man flu. Am five weeks on from my first symptoms and am still struggling. Was off work for a week, returned for a week then was off for a further week and a half. Last two weeks have been an absolute struggle. I'm coughing my lungs out with a secondary lung infection, my head, muscles and joints ache, I flush like a lady of a certain age, have lost so much fluid through sweat I'm surprised all that's left of me isn't dust and need to go to bed as soon as I get home from work.
Apart from some aches and pains from falling off the odd motorcycle and horse I'm normally very fit and healthy. Anyone else had this? How long does it take to shift?

Once, I went from happily spannering my bike in my Garage feeling normal, to in bed pouring with sweat, feeling too weak to move inside 15 mins. I was there for a week. Another week or feeling a bit off, and I was okay though.
You'll NEVER catch anyone who's had flu, talking about being a "a bit fluy" or saying "I've got a cold / flu type thing" it's like saying "I'm going for a marathon type thing" as they're getting ready to walk to the shops.

I had proper flu when I was a teenager. I think if I got that ill now I would probably die. The only other thing that has rendered me so helpless was about 6 years ago when I had a cold which led to an ear infection which knocked out my whole balance system. For a week or so all I could do was intensely stare and concentrate on a stationary red LED just to settle my balance/motion senses. Even now I have problems.
Had it the Xmas before last, came on on Boxing day, spent a week in bed feeling like death then had another week slumped on the sofa coughing and shivering. After a couple of days of steady improvement I decided I needed to get out of the house, went for a slow walk properly wrapped up against the cold, within twenty minutes I felt absolutely awful and had to go back to the sofa for another few days. About six weeks before I felt really right.
As has already been said, people who are a bit sniffy and say "I think I have a touch of flu" are talking out of their trumpet!
Real flu is very bad news.

I was ill Christmas 2017, a real nasty virus - probably not flu as I was also congested, but I did have a fever on and off for about a week and it wiped me out. Lost sense of taste and smell. It took well over a year for my sense of smell and taste to go back to normal - certain foods and smells were awful, much like the anosmia reported by long covid sufferers. In the year after I was also ill a lot, mini relapses of feeling ill, tired, hot flushes, sinus problems etc.

It is eye opening reading these accounts of (long) flu from 7 years ago and how similar they are to (Long) Covid today.
I wonder if upon reviewing this thread any of the gullible will alter their views?
It's much easier to con people, than it is to convince them that they have been conned.I wonder if upon reviewing this thread any of the gullible will alter their views?
