So I was at the gym doing dumbell shoulder press and i felt as I pushed up my neck crack. I'm now in great pain whenever I move my head.
What am I likely to have done?
impossible to tell without face to face What am I likely to have done?
if you are genuinely in severe pain from something in your neck i'd be dialling 999 while not moving my your neck very much - it may sound like an over reaction but it equally may prevent you from paralysis.
You've done exactly what I did regularly for years before stopping military press and bar-behind-neck latpulls.
You've pulled a muscle/trapped a nerve in your cervical region. If you're unlucky the pain will go right down to below the shoulder blade on that side and you'll sleep badly for a week.
Take some painkillers, rest and stop doing the above exercises would be my advice

Happend to me a few times while doing overhead dumbell press, upright rows or side lat raises. Normally happens to me if I accidently look to the side (even slightly) while pressing. If you have the same, it should go away but things like driving might be a pain for a couple of days. But worth getting checked out rather than an internet forum diagnosis!
