Does anybody here practice this ?

Not quite sure why but I've just started thinking about giving it a go.

Any pointers or recommendations for beginners ?

I do it regularly. What do you want to get out of it?

Not too sure. I guess a sense of well being. Does it give any more than that?

Relaxation/calmness, the ability to control your emotions (to an extent), a greater understand of how your head works (possibly), a more chilled out approach to things, the ability to control your thoughts. Depending on the kind of meditation: improved breathing capacity, physical ability, balance...

Oh, I do tai chi and chi kung plus a bit of "empty the mind" style of meditation.

If you can afford to take 10 days out of your life, you can do a Vipassana course. If you can't afford to take 10 days out of your life then change it so you can. I did it, and it's hard work, but you do come away feeling great, but the majority of folk don't continue to practice once leaving. I didn't. I had a celebratory steak and piss-up and just about died from hangoverness:

Alot to benefit from, then.

How did you start? I mean, did you just do it by yourself learning from a book or were you tutored by somebody?

I went to a class after reading a book. For the stuff I started out with, it was a better idea to seek out a teacher because of the posture - hard to know whether you're standing or sitting in the correct posture; a book or DVD won't tell you if you're not doing it right.
