was my Dad a diabetic?

I went for a health check up recently and one of the questions I was asked was "is there any diabetes in the family" I said no.

However, talking with my brother today he thinks my Dad was Diabetic as he remembers him testing his urine every day with a stick which he dipped in his urine and matched the colour against a chart. I don't remember this... but it was 30 years ago...


so is that how they used to test all those years ago?

It is, although there were some other conditions that can be tested for by urine dipsticks. Notably looking for blood or protein in the urine.
