Evening all,

I've been talked into doing the Bristol half at the start of September. Everything I've trained for before has been a bit haphazard, this time I'd like to be a bit more focussed.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a training plan to help me get properly fit for it?

I'd start with the Runners World Half Marathon guide and go from there.

Also worth going along to your local athletics/running club to find some like-minded people to run with (all standards welcomed).

Am going through it at the moment, my race is on 20th August. The starting point being a fat unfit middle-aged bloke. Fartlek training really does make a difference. After a couple of weeks training I'm now up to 8.5 miles at a reasonable pace. I'm not using a plan, but am running 4 times a week - 1 fartlek, 2 easy and 1 long run.

Thumbs up! I did it 2 years ago. With not much training and pretty much walking from 9 miles I did it in 2 hours. Going to do if this year. Aiming for sub 1.45.

I'm doing the runners world plan.

It's a great run. Nice and flat. Esp the last half a mile through the crowds.

Thanks all. The runners world site looks like a goldmine. Looking forward to it now!
