Joint care supplements
Discussion
My joints in my left hand crack when I stretch out my fingers, they now get a little stiff up until I crack them to 'free' them up. And are also slightly painful, I'm only in my early 20s. I have been looking around and there are lots of suplements you can get to help rebuild cartiledge/reduce swelling etc.
Does anybody use anything like this? Any recommendations? I was looking at Vitabiotics Jointace but there are lots of different versions!!

Make sure you get glucosamine with chondroitin or take chondroitin as a further supplement. It's a perfect partner for glucosamine and helps the development of healthy cartilage. Care to back that up with some proof....Are there any studies showing Hyaline cartilage regrows with Gluc+Chond ?

No. Most of the studies done however focussed on treating osteoarthritis, so perhaps they have benefits in other conditions. And perhaps they don't... certainly there's no good evidence. Are there any studies showing Hyaline cartilage regrows with Gluc+Chond ?

I use Boots own high strength Glucosamine sulphate 1500mg + Chondroitin sulphate 1200mg , all come together in one box ,take one each a day. not cheap around £25 a box lasts a month, but i find them very good, used to suffer a bit with the joints and the running i do , but they all seem great now.

you have to think, of that tiny, tiny amount you take, how much of that gets into your stomach, into your blood stream, to the arteries near joints and then passively diffuse into the cartilage of the joints of which you are suffering pain (cartilage is basically avascular....it doesn't have a blood supply and relies on getting nutrients effectively by a pumping action (i'm simplifying a little here).
there is no way it would help for gout, the mechanism of gout formation doesn't fit. in theory, you'd be far less likely to get flare ups if you drink less alcohol, eat well, and get those joints far away from the centre of your body warm (monosodium urate crystals become less soluble in the cold and form crystals in joints, hence the big toe is effected most as it's a "cold" joint).

nah, it's a fair point. there certainly needs to be a lot more research in the area.Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
