Inter Ocular lens surgery

Hi All, Looking for some guidance/help, I have a quite strong prescription ( do not have it to hand at the moment) I have been assessed by accuvision and they tell with laser surgery they will not be able to remove my need for glasses. I am 57 years of age have been wearing glasses since I was 5 and now am experiencing age related eye problems as well. I was told that lens replacement ( one eye for reading one for distance ) would be the best course of action. Eighteen months ago I was quoted £5000 and now they tell me its £7000. The surgeon is Dr Rostron ( I realise the surgeon is the pivital part of the process). Does the price seem reasonable, is the surgeon as good as they get, are there any other companies/surgeons I should speak to?

The operation is essentially a cataract operation (if we're talking about RLE) so that should give you an idea. Any decent eye surgeon can do the operation, it's the most common one that they do, so it's probably an idea to shop around a lot first.

Thanks for that...I guess the usual laser people offer lens replacements?. Any recommendations or suggestions?.

It does sound like a clear lens extraction that is being recommended - essentially the same as cataract surgery (with the same risks, including much worse vision) as the previous poster mentionned. £7000 seems quite alot but perhaps that is just london prices!

Whilst the operation is similar to cataract surgery, I wouldn't quite say 'any decent eye surgeon can do it'. For a good result with astigmatic neutrality it does take some skill. Indeed depending on the package, the IOL inserted may be a toric or accommodative IOL. Yes you can shop around, but my advice would be to go to see a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in cataract and refractive surgery.

OP's post (one distance and one close) didn't suggest anything exciting like an accomodative IOL. Certainly if there were "extras" like that it's going to take a specialist to do it. And of course I can't really talk; I just have bad eyes, I don't fix them.
