A colleague of mine reckons he's lost 8 pounds in a month and the only chaneg he's made to diet is upping his coffee intake from one or two a day to 6 or 8 per day.

He's a big fella (maybe 17 stone and 5'9" or so) and not very active.

BS?

Utter...

Caffeine DOES increase your heartrate, and therefore your metabolism, but not to such a degree that he'd lose 2lbs a week through no other change to his excercise/diet routine.

He'd have keeled over from heart failure long before such a stage was possible!

The only way I can see his claims having any truth to them is if he's cut his intake of other fluids as well as upping coffee, to the extent he's dehydrating or something.

hehe

I thought they seemed outlandish claims... Mind you, he's never out of the crapper these days so maybe that's where the weight loss is coming from... wink

Id tend to agree so far. I think that's a big/ improbable loss through caffine. However maybe he is actiually finally hydrated. That can aid weight loss. Coffee isn't ideal as caffine is a diuretic. Alaternatively just havingsomething in his belly may stop his hunger so he is eating less without realising.

I tend to agree with all the above guesses as to why it may be helping. It might also be that he's now walking to the kitchen four times as much as he used to for drinks.

I'm on cup 5 this morning - all big mugs of bean-to-cup, two with added shots of espresso. Not Starbucks muck, good stuff. The buzz? non existent. It just brings me back up to normality, rather than offering a peak.

The 'Pulse' stuff from My Protein does the trick in that respect though - iirc 120mg caffeine per serving for the rank berry flavour.
