Getting out of bed in the morning
Discussion
Hey,
This may sound silly, but sometimes I really struggle to get out of bed in the mornings! Now some of you may say its just down to lazyness, but I can assure you it is not! I am a hard worker when I eventually get going! I was wondering if any studies have been done on this, as I have a friend who naturally awakes up between 7 & 8 every day even after having only 6 hours, whereas if there was no alarm I would stay under for as much as 11 hours. Could I be a much deeper sleeper than my friend?
Does anybody have any tips on how to get the mind & body focused in the morning short of rigging up a cold bucket of water above my head set to drop when the alarm goes off.
Cheers!

If you find out, let me know.
I think some people are naturally night people, others are morning people. I find it difficult to get out of bed before 9am on a weekend whereas I understand some PHers get up at 7am or earlier on a weekend without problems. Also, some people need just 5 hours' sleep, others need 9 or more. Dunno why.

We both struggle with mornings doesn't matter what routine we get in to, how early we go to bed, avoiding eating late, caffiene etc nothing works, yet we can work til 2/3am without a problem. Think some people can do earlys and some lates, evolutions way of keeping forums busy 24/7!
But if you do find a solution, feel free to share!

I was the same, i used to set about 5-6 alarms on my phone and "gradually" wake up over about half an hour or so and then i downloaded an alarm clock app that allowed me to put a song on as my alarm "tone". I have found this works quite well as i tend to s
t myself every morning when it goes off as i choose a ridiculous song that is really load on the iPhone. Turn speakers up for full effect
Try it, I dare you
The trick is to leave it playing on full blast so that could cant drop back to sleep.

I'm terrible at getting up. It can be a bit frustrating when other people don't really "get" why you took so long to get out of bed.
I seem to be a really deep sleeper and often when I first wake up I'm not really thinking clearly because I'm half asleep. So I Can have full conversations with ppl then fall back to sleep immediately and forget I have even spoken to them. Or I will see I have an hour to be somewhere and my half asleep brain will decide I can do it in 30mins. Quite annoying when you actually wake up properly and realise you're going to be late! I also sometimes wake up an hour after my alarm was set and find I must have woken up turned it off and gone to sleep again but have no recollection of it.

when I set the alarm I actually laughed at myself, knowing what was going to happen In the morning. Turns out, I didn't make a brown mess in the bed so I now wake up to drunken monkey every morning. I'm utterly terrible at it - always have been from before I was a teenager. I can stay awake for days on end with little trouble, but even if my sleeping pattern is normal I sleep like the dead and I can't wake up before my body wants to. I've even slept through a fire alarm on a ship despite one of the bells being outside my cabin door. Over the years I've missed countless appointments and stuff because of it, though I'm much better than I used to be these days. If it's something important first thing I still don't trust my alarm clock to do it's job and usually stay up as a precautionary measure. As it stands my body clock seems to change week in week out, one week I'll be nocturnal, the next it'll be 20 hour days, then a week of normality.
Been to the docs about it, had a battery of tests and all come back fine. Aside of carrying a bit more beef than is ideal, I'm in great health according to the fine folks at BUPA.
The only thing that's been recommended is sleeping tablets if the likes of Nytol etc doesn't work. I'm not keen on depending on them so it's something I've just learned to live with. I don't mind it now I work for myself (largely from home). It's actually a bonus that I can be available at silly hours to most of my clients

It's probably an age thing. When I was younger I'd struggle to get out of bed in the morning...always hitting the snooze button a few times - or sleeping till lunchtime at the weekends. Slept solidly throughout the night.
Nowadays my bladder needs emptying about 4am and I usually get up when it's daylight outside

Have you tried to go to bed earlier?
I was once told that an hours sleep before midnight is worth 2 hours sleep after midnight. Obviously that would depend on how your body clock is working and could be a load of b
ks but it may be something to try, early to bed, early to rise.I used to be one of those who would press the snooze alarm several times before getting up and sometimes be guilty of wasting a morning asleep at weekends.
Several things changed this!
Having a husband whose work shift was different, I got up earlier so didn't like disturbing him any more than I had to with my alarms so I set it for the time I HAD to get up, so alarm went off, I switched it off and got out of bed straight away.
Having a baby so now no weekend lie ins!!
Getting ready for work and getting baby ready is all precision timing, I have to get up early enough so not going to weaste valuable sleep on snooze alrams going off.
I still rarely go to bed early enough, I get woken due to little one during the night but am still up between 6am-7am every day. Every now and then I have to get to bed by 9pm to catch up but not often.
