I dispise the place, and avoid it like the plague. However I can't ignore the Death Star like tractor beam that is drawing me towards The Tamarind and we have a table there tomorrow evening. Staying at The Hilton on Park Lane, and would welcome any bar recommendations between hotel and restaurant for a freshener before the meal.

Quality is the order of the day, but "nowt posh" as we say up here. Main priorities are not getting shot/mugged/blown up/gang raped/etc. Secondary wishes would be not too busy, and not too many cockneys calling me 'gavnor'.

Many thanks.

Your not from round ere are ya?

Lots of places, just don't end up in the Dover street winer bar at 2:00am.

I would avoid most restaurants and bars as you will be gang raped, starbucks is like a war zone now, muggings on purchasers of expressos are well above average and even Cafe Nero has seen numerous shottings at the panini section.

If your not famous, you probably will not get in to the Zeta bar (or whatever it is now called) at the Hilton, Windows is quite pricey.

Best stay away.

That's EXACTLY what I feared. Armoured taxi from Kings Cross to the Hotel, and then onto the restaurant, is obviously the order of the day.

Not for quite a long time. You're all stadium, no footballers these days.

I'd go for the windows bar at the top of the Hilton. Like someone said, its a bit pricey but nice atmosphere and good views if there isn't too much smog! At least you'll be safe too!

Wandered into Guy Ritchies pub The Punch Bowl the other day. Seemed pleasant enough. There was some faded rock star in there whose name escapes me! Not cheap though!

So between Park Lane and the other side Mayfair - there are literally (not literally) millions of places, but mostly bars rather than pubs.

You could try Mahiki on Dover St.....

When I went down there I couldn't find anyone to call me Guvnor!. No pearly kings and queens singing "My old man!" nowhere to buy "Apples and pears" very untraditional if you ask me its not what it used to be.

Great in NYC, but the service is ste at Nobu in London(obviously).

The Tamarind is an Indian Restaurant which has a very good reputation, I believe it has(or had for a long time) 1 Michelin star.

Is The Ivy close to Park Lane? Does the bar have a dress code?

All the bars in the Hilton require a reservation(just for a cocktail)! Is that normal down south?
