Ok, convinced the girlfriend to go to Chester rather than Crewe.

What's to do in Chester then?

Anyone recommend any restaurants or attractions?

What about the zoo?

Heard good things about it. But is it worth going?

Go round the shops, walk around the walls? Zoo is good, haven't been there in years though.

The zoo's good but quite expensive. If its a nice day you could always take a walk down to the river and hire a boat out, depending on how energetic your feeling theres either rowing boats or motor boats, or go on one of the cruises.

Chester is much nicer than Crewe, good call. It's a nice city to wander around, some nice restaurants and bars. It can get quite rough at night though, lots of Wrexham and Liverpool folk converge on the city. Don't go on a race day either, the night will be full of slappers in ill-fitting dresses throwing up all over the place.

Chez Jules - Nice restaurant, and some good deals mid-week
Fiesta Havana - Bar that gets absolutely rammed on Friday/Saturday nights. Avoid unless you enjoy being very close to sweaty young girls. scratchchin
Chester Grosvenor - If you really want to spoil her and have deep pockets.

Go to the Zoo.

Hire a boat or get drunk near the river, walk the walls, Roman stuff (amphitheatre) Shopping area is good for a walk around. Go the horses if a meeting is on.

I can strongly recommend "the living room" near the cathedral in Chester. I was quite surprised how good the place was seeing as it has quite a popular bar as well. Not particularly cheap but very much worth it.

As mentioned don't forget to have a walk around the walls and see the cathedral. There's also the remains of an ampitheatre(sp?) that is worth a look if you're into that sort of thing.

Avoid the nearby towns of Blacon, Ellesmere Port and anywhere "on the wirral" as they're populated by insufferable wkers. Infact be sure to lock your doors if you end up driving near Blacon.

North Wales driving is also on your doorstep if you're wanting one of the most pleasent drives in the UK. Head towards "Horshoe pass" and keep going. You won't regret it.

HTH.

They do a bus tour of chester now goes round all the roman stuff and by the race course. If you take a map you can walk faster though, got stuck behind it yesterday and it did 5mph for about a mile.

It went downhill when the Romans left!

Chester Zoo is good.

Blue Planet Aquarium near Cheshire Oaks is good.

Cheshire Oaks has good shops and is near to Chester Harley Davidson and Chester Motorrad oh and Chester's Porsche dealership.

The river is good, even better in decent weather.
