Had a strange call from a loan company

For the past 2 days i have received 3 missed calls from a number that I did not recognise so I called the number last night and a guy on the phone asked me for my postcode etc which I refused to give him. It turns out that he knew about a loan that i took out through Lloyds last year including the ammount and was trying to get me to switch to his company claiming that he could save me money. Now I am pissed becouse how did this company get hold of my address details, loan ammount and my mobile number?????

Should I call Lloyds and demand an explanation as I didn't try any other lenders or is this now the norm for banks to give out personal details?

Lloyds sold the details to them, would be totally legal too as I bet you didn't see that little box to tick in size 0.000001 hidden in the dot of an 'i' on the application form.

We got a phone line hooked up in our house last December for the broadband. The only company that knows of this number is BT.

Guess what, we have already had dodgy sales calls!

Our details can only be coming from one place. I wonder how much they get for selling these on?

I feel for you as it really annoys me too. I may complain to BT but what will come of it?? Nowt I suppose.

Write to Lloyds and ask them whether or not they have sold this data on.

You need to expressly consent to such things. IT is not an Opt Out but an Opt In which is needed.

Could the dodgy loan company not have looked at your credit report under the pretense that you authorised it?

If you have a clubcard every detail will be sold to a million different companies, where you shop, what you buy, what time you shop, how much you spend etc.

used to get mbna phoning me on mobile, told the caller who he was before he had a chance to offer me stuff due to repeated missed calls, emailed their head office, they could stop the calls or would shred the card

In the verbal T&C's of a natwest loan they say they may give out your details. It will be in the small print somewhere, nothing to worry about..

No the credit check wouldn't reveal any phone numbers, but definately loan details.

I've had this; try writing to the Information Commissioners Office(ICO), they do take this sort of thing seriously. I've now registered our home number, mobiles and address with TPS and MPS and it should cut most of this crap out.
