Rather a random post I suppose, but I know sod all about birds (the winged variety that is!) and spotted a rather odd looking example in my garden last week. I took a photo throught the kitchen window as I have never seen anything like it before and wondered if anyone had any ideas? The obvious answer is a crow with a serious feather problem, but the 'neatness' of the bald head did look very odd!

Have uploaded a couple of high res photos here:

any ideas as although I am sure I'll never see it again I'd still like to know what it was!

That's one odd looking bird.
You must be right, it's a shaved crow. How bizarre!

It's a Blackbird.

Guess some sort of disease has caused the feather loss on its head.

I'd consider myself quite knowledgable on birds, one of my main hobbies, and I'd say it's almost certainly an upside down moorhen

I'm with Central on this one. It looks like a Blackbird with missing feathers.
