I worked in Hong Kong for a bit and was never aware of this... apparently quite a few of them live in cages!

Well why not? If you live on the State should you really expect a 4-bedroom detached for free? Only in the UK it seems.

They live in a space surrounded on all sides by bars or wire which is the definition of a cage. They are not locked into the "cages" they are free to come and go. Not exactly the same as a zoo animal locked in.

Personally I have slept in worse.

Yes, I think the point of cage is so you have somewhere to store your clothes. It's like your mini home. And yes, I agree with the above sentiment about not expecting a 4 bedroom home. A 4 cage home, well, maybe.

Yeah, right, and I live in a concrete box! What do they always have to stick an 'angle' on this sort of thing for??? Just because a bed is made of wire mesh it makes it a bloody 'cage'????

Next thing someone will raise the old urban legend of 'The cages' in Bombay, where imprisoned underage stolen hookers are locked in cages forever and forced to have sex with 600 smelly labourers a day. rolleyes
