Ear defenders for children
Discussion
Have started to take my 4-year old son to some trackdays and plan to attend other track/car events this summer and beyond with him. Whilst he liked seeing the cars the noise was too much for him on some of the cars and I don`t want this to put him off going again. Now, I have seen kid specific ear defenders made by a company called "Peltor" and did`nt know if any of you had any experience of these or could suggest/recommend anything similar.
Thanks in advance.

I had a similar experience with Annie after taking her to the LMS race at Donington in '06. She would only come to the subsequent races (no problems getting her to do the camping!) if I promised to buy her some ear defenders, so I got her some of the pink Peltor ones. She let her cousins try them on then promptly forgot that she had them! Thanks in advance.

I was going to say my son has been coming to our events since birth (he's 2 1/2 now) and we have some very loud cars at some things - one was unsilenced special and he has never had any problems even with the loudest. Perhaps he's deaf!
...or will be soon. Kid's hearing is easily damaged. One of my pet hates as a marshal is seeing kids on the bank without ear protection and worse kids with their fingers in their ears because the know it's noisy but their parents don't even get them ear plugs. Piglet said:

Maybe but our Gp told me they were a fashion accessory and he reckons its a myth about kids hearing being damaged! Mind you I am not sure how up to date he is!
That's terrible advice!! Google for Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) for more details and please make your children wear ear defenders if they're going to be exposed to high noise levels. They'll thank you for it later in life

I am so pleased that you are astute enough to know exactly where my child has been allowed to stand at motorsports events. And of course, which events we have been to and how long he has been exposed to them for and of course whether it has been on purpose. Actually, I have tried to repeated deafen him by taking him to runways and sitting under the planes as they take off.
Perhaps you could give me the winning lottery numbers for next week. Now that would be helpful.
I should be most obliged if you would go back to your hole, put your tin foil hat on and judge the next person you don't know anything about without actually engaging your brain. Perfect Labour polictician material.
Bloody hell, how can such an innocent thread end up this way?! PH hey...
Maybe I should add that prior to buying the ear defenders I encouraged Annie to wear earplugs but they kept coming out. I would definitely get the ear defenders as they are for all intents and purposes fit and forget.
