Army recruiting office - how smart?
Discussion
Since I'm young and naive, I put an application in to the RAF. Went down today, discussed my options, I was in shirt, tie, smart trousers and smart shoes. Since the other potential applicants were in "casual" wear, I'm wondering if I was a little overdressed? Want to get the pitch right when I go back for my second informal discussion...

No, having been in one myself today for an Army Officer brief, you will do well to turn up well presented at each stage regardless of what you are aiming for.
Agreed. Every interview i turned up to i was very smartly dressed, don't worry about what the others are wearing just concentrate on looking smart and you'll do well.john_p said:
Not referring to the RAF as the Army would be a very good start.

Sorry, wasn't very clear. It's one office, with three desks - one for each of Army, Navy and RAF.
As it happens, I'm going back down to talk to the Army tomorrow.
Right, so carrying on as I am is the best way... cheers chaps.

As it was your first 'informal' chat then you were probably over-dressed, but it will have been noted that you were smart and won't go against you. If your next chat is also informal, then you shouldn't worry about being suited. However, when you do finally have you proper 'interview' then you will need to be in your suit and shoes as that's when it will count.
the exact same thing happened to me when i went into the navy office. turned up looking, well, the s
t frankly. everyone else was in jeans and a t-shirt. it can't harm in any way can it?
