Seems to be a rather liberal use of the phrase 'epic' lately, sometimes combined with 'fail' to create a particularly cringeworthy expression.

If I don't use this term, am I not part of the cool kids?

I think it is just PH is now using what the internet geeks were using 5-10 years ago.

Hence the repeated old pictures of the Epic Fail, O RLY, etc.

I guess someone in the "cool" gang uses it and someone else sees it and they so want to be that person they have to copy them.

I find it is only the weak, insecure and the ones looking for approval from others use it.

Pretty much, the stuff has been around a while now.

At least the over use of "über" has died out.

It's hardly new, it's been in common use, even on PH, for at least 2-3 years, some people are a bit slow on the uptake though.

Just like real life then, most people get their sayings, mannerisms, accents, etc, via mimickery.

PH does seem slow on the uptake with internet memes i see..

My mate used the word "epic" the other day when he was describing the performance of his Golf VR6, I laughed at him for about ten minutes, he got upset, I've changed his name in my phone to "Epic Dave"

Interesting how you use the word 'cool' quite happily! (which I suspect was introduced by hippies in the 1960s). It's like, iconic, man.

It's just another example of people thinking Americans are cool.
