Just reading through the '...reveal tenuous links to famous people' thread and it revealed the Barry Sheene/uncle to Scott Smart link.

Plenty of threads over the years of Walter Mitty types who made ridicluous claims that were patently untrue but are there any that actually turned out to be true? Would be interesting to know...

I thought everyone knew that about Scott Smart? His father was Pul Smart a very accomplished racer in his own right.

Back on topic, Copernicus had a wild idea that the Earth wasn’t the centre of the universe, the Sun was. Took nearly a century after his death to catch on.

That was one of the big conspiracy theories, right up there with Chemtrails and the COVID vaccines planting microchips in people.

Showing my age here, but wasn't the original Custard created by a poster who was absolutely ripped apart because people thought he was lying about the cars he owned?

As it is clear this is going to be a thread for the old farts, I just wanted to post this.

I seem to remember a lot of people refused to believe their personal data was worth worrying about until the saw the sort of st Cambridge Analytica was up to.

Some people refuse to believe their smart phone is listening to everything around it, all the time, or what manufacturers and app makers can, and are doing with that information.
