It could be worth over a pound now!

To be fair that's beating inflation over the same period.

After dealing with the deaths of relatives I have some tins of maybe 200 old coins including 1/4d farthing, 1/2d halfpenny, 1/d penny (lots), 3d thruppenny bit, 6d tanner/sixpence , 12d shilling, 30d half crown (2/6), 24d florin.
I tried using web sites to look up values but it is so tedious especially as certain pennies are worth a fortune but only if the numbers for the date are a teeny teeny bit out of line or the pimple on the monarch's nose is missing.
Even if a coin has value the effort to sell on sites like eBay are too much for me.
I guess they will become my heir's problem at some point.

My parents had a modest collection of "collectable" coins. In those little boxes. My brother kept a couple, I kept one from my birth year, the others I looked up, then went to a local coin shop. They made a sensible cash offer (I think it was about 75% of what I might have made if I'd sold them all at healthy prices) and away we went.
