I was, last week told a lie that I still can’t get my head around.

My mother lives in Spain, in June 23 her and partner decided to have a civil partnership, makes it much easier when it comes to care homes, probate or selling property when one passes.

Over there you and your solicitor head to the notary, sign paperwork, solicitor signs it, and they then have 30 days to register it. Easy hey, sadly not. Skip forward to late last year and Mums partner goes into a care home with dementia. Alls well until we notice the partners will missing, deeds for the villa missing and his POA not done right, all these were done by the same solicitors as civil partnership. Recommended by the carer no less, I know I know, but that’s another story.

So, I needed to head over, Mum is 82 so needed help, we made an appointment and went to see the solicitor, during conversation he let it known they knew nothing about a civil partnership, hold up I said, you witnessed it, no I didn’t, so Mum gets out her phone and brings up some pictures of the big day, He even went for a drink with them afterwards.

I held the phone up, with his picture, and we had a copy of the paperwork, with his name and signature on it.

Nope, 100% not me he said, I said you’ve even got the same tie on.

I kid you not, I could not believe the nerve of him. Now appears it’s not been registered. We now have a UK based lawyer who specialises in Spanish law, and the local police all involved. But all that’s another story.

On a lighter note, a lad who works for me still swears to this day that when he flew easyJet from Luton to Turkey last year he was upgraded for free, he has a suite on the aircraft with a double bed and own shower.

So, made me think, what’s the worst barefaced lie you’ve been told, let’s ignore any from politicians shall we.

Dentists and their very loose definition of the word hurt, as in " drilling into your already sensitive tooth for the next few minutes won't hurt much "

I can accept being lied to if it has a point.

Years ago we had a sweaty smelly postman who told us he'd had all of Pan's People. Not one, ALL of them. Now why would someone tell a lie like that?

My first wife told me, just after our divorce, that she'd been in love with someone else on the day she married me. That's not the lie, the lie is that she told me and everybody else that she loved me and wanted to marry me.

From a thread on here a few years back , a tale that still makes me laugh thinking about it . A tale about a guy who claimed that he had strangled a shark with an eel .

Those 2 things aren't mutually exclusive. She may have loved both of you, but chose to marry you.

"I will carry out your dad's wishes", said to me and my sister coming up to 11 years ago during a conversation with his widow a few months after his death, to this day neither of us have seen a penny, we didn't believe her TBH.

The type of person who you just didn't know what was a lie and what was the truth.
