Garage clear-out, I mean it this time
Discussion
Fed up with bemoaning the lack of space in my garage, I've decided to do something about it. I've got a box of old hi-fi kit under the workbench, so that's all going on ebay. The most valuable bit will probably be the Trio KA3750 amp, I just need to drag it out and make sure it still works.
Then there's the RF600 bike that's been SORN'd for years, that will need a bit of work to get it running properly unless I sell it as a non-runner.
I regularly trip over a box of old Nerf guns from when the kids were small, I think some of these might be collectable now? I might get the boys to be responsible for selling these, and they can split the profits.
I've got a box of Practical Sportsbike magazines that aren't in good enough condition to sell, but might be of interest to somebody on here if anyone wants to collect (North-West Midlands)?
I think the main reason I'm posting this is to put pressure on myself to actually get rid of some of this old toot and create some space. I'll get started at the weekend, honest. What have you got cluttering up your potentially immaculate workspace?

I was in the habit of keeping the original box packaging of stuff I bought just in case I has to return it. Some of the boxes ended up staying in my garage longer than the life of the product itself so I had a good clearcut there.
Currently I still have an old guinea pig cage which is taking up a lot of room and a couple of suitcases, the old style ones with 2 wheels on one corner and a drag handle at the end which tip to the side really easily as you drag them.

I have 4 large roll door office cabinets at the back, mostly filled with old paperwork that needs shredding from my wifes old company, but they are getting done slowly. It's got too expensive to take to the place that does mass shredding. £150 a car load now and there's probably 4 car loads, plus you just leave it and they shred it later - not ideal.
Some kitchen detritus in there as well, then the loft is full of stuff, plus recycling, a tumble drier...

I've started doing the same...
Last week I put some winter wheels and tyres for a car I got rid of 3 years ago up on FB Marketplace..
A few idiots messaged, but they were sold to a decent buyer the next day.
Yesterday I had 26 people wanting to buy my old compressor... it was gone in 4 hours, to the first guy that messages within 5 minutes of it going live.
Got a fair few other things from cars and bikes to go on still... starting with my 6 pot Brembo calipers from said old car going live today!
I've found it a bit of fun which has surprised me... not sure how long that'll last mind you.

Many years ago I had a garage clear out and skipped a load of relatively valueless (and eBay wasn't a thing really yet, local ads etc. variable usefulness) bits as I had moved on from those cars. A series 1275 blocks, mg metro gearbox, cooperns Conrods, midget forged cranks, a few 12g940 heads. And a load of other bits. One of the blocks was new with hone marks.
Probably a grand or 2 of bits I reckon. And more annoyingly stuff I've had to buy back at various times.
I don't throw anything away now.
Sorry. That might not help.

Garage clear outs, bad news.
I had been talking about clearing out my garage for a while. Went to work in UAE for six months, when I came back, my wife had sold my five spoke Ferrari wheels from a 512M without telling me, 'The buyer seemed very pleased with the price, don't worry I bought you this pen with the money'.
Nobody seems to do much mechanicing anymore, I have a large tool kit with Metric, imperial including A/F spanners, boxed, open ended and ring, but I speak to people at the club, no one even changes their own oil anymore never mind proper work, Cheeses me off that the stuff I spent years putting together will go into a skip.

Longitudinal 1275 engines (midget, marina, ital etc) are getting tricky to find now and the prices are going up. Probably a grand or 2 of bits I reckon. And more annoyingly stuff I've had to buy back at various times.

A NOS one would be lovely. Still loads of 12G940 heads floating about.

Buy a cheap dustbin shaped incinerator from B & Q or similar and burn them in an hour, a litre of petrol and a few logs to get started. I did this a few years ago…Some kitchen detritus in there as well, then the loft is full of stuff, plus recycling, a tumble drier...

I bit the bullet when I got divorced and cleared out (emptied) a recording studio and a large car barn. The recording studio I gave to my godson who was studying music production - 24 track Mackie desk, racks of effects D/A converters, headphones, microphones, amps etc etc. I was a bit surprised that he subsequently sold it all on Ebay - not the intention of the gift.
The car barn I had cleared by a 'man with a van' - tons of stuff from air compressors, shelving units, tools.... he kept asking why I didn't want to sell it - I just said I wanted it gone and cleared out. He was very happy with 3 flat bed trucks full of gear.
I guess the whole decluttering thing (for me at least) was either a sudden emptying or thinking 'I could sell that for £100' or whatever and declutter bit by bit. I recently gave a pair of Lamborghini wheels to a PH'er rather than trying to sell them.
Worth researching here about why we hoard and the remedies:

^ Please tell me they were a spare set and you didn’t come home to find a 512m jacked up on bricks: was it a nice pen?
I had bought them cheapish from a man in Huddersfield who had swapped out the wheels for crosswire alloys for racing, so yes they were a set, I cannot call them a spare set because tbh I had no use for them. The pen was a Montblanc which was about £700 at the time. Wacky Racer said:
One of my three garages before I bit the bullet last year and had a clear out,
Had to be ruthless, kept some stuff, but it is absolutely pristine now, and has had a remote control powder coated roller door fitted.
Is that an original Wilson Squash Racket on the right there?
996's incinerator bin is a great idea for paperwork, bought one a year ago.
Cardboard boxes - we have a loft full - in case of returns but also if we have to send anything to someone. Total fire hazard I know!!
Then there's the "just in case" stuff in the loft, tables, chairs, kitchenware, and my 19 year old won't throw ANYTHING out so that's all up there.
The garage attached to the house is full.
The detached garage isn't too bad; once I take the Denon amp, VHS player, speakers to the tip. Did offer them free local but a name with no vowels wanted to collect and we're not that easy to find....
There's a 2004 Boxster in there, must advertise that again once it's MOT'd in April.
