New years eve. "Forced Fun"
Discussion
We've never really bothered, think we did one year early on but as you say it just feels forced. I think some people love it, it's probably another excuse for a late one, when I was early 20s I used to enjoy clubs etc. But lack of opportunity from late 20s on I got out of the habit. Going to have a nice dinner tomorrow but well both be asleep by 9-10 tonight.
Never been a fan, but that's mostly because I'm a morning person and hate having to stay up past midnight.
We're actually going to two parties - friend of the wife until about 10, then friend of mine for the new year part.
I'm be fine tomorrow though since I'm driving - so 0% Heineken.

We're going to a party with some friends who have a massive house in a hamlet the middle of nowhere near Henley on Thames.
Just a few couples with primary school aged kids going.
It's great because we can turn the music up, enjoy some great food and drink and the kids all get a treat to stay up late.
We just can't throw a party like that in our modest three bed shoebox, so we appreciate the invitation, it's always a great laugh.

I think part of the problem is, if you’re an old fart like me, you saw in the millenium (twice! Does anyone remember there was debate about whether it was 1999 or 2000? And the millennium bug fear…) and after that, a year seems less significant. Or maybe I’m just too old and boring to care anymore…
Did the millennium one in Scotland...was a party lasting 4:days (Inverness area) ....
Now that was a party...I think...don't remember much.
Except if you had a wine glass the base was broken off so you couldn't put it down and if anyone noticed your glass was empty it got refilled with what ever they had . Neat gin , vodka, scotch etc

No - NYE parties are s
t!
I'd honestly rather stay at home, get a takeaway, open a bottle of wine and watch a good movie with the Mrs knowing full well i'll be hangover free tomorrow.

Occasionally I have to be part of a team working in the office from 1AM to 6AM to help with a new release. I go to bed as soon as I get home the evening before and set the alarm for midnight, then greet everyone with a breezy 'good morning' at 00:50.
Staying up until 4AM isn't going to happen.
